pay for the cfi too and ill be there.

:yeahthat: :yeahthat:

That's not going to happen, and for good reason.

We were actually kicking the idea around the table awhile, and PAIFA does pay for CFI, CFII, and MEI, but only for internal students that take up a two year contract. I personally am getting all of my CFI ratings for free. :)

As for external students, well, think about a situation like this.

We get someone in with their CMEL or CSEL and we offer all the CFI ratings for free. He, or she, starts their CFI training, take the ground school, burn up a lot of time in the Arrow, and in the end it turns out that they just flat out suck!!

What is our recourse?

You are bringing nothing to the table if you have no CFI ratings.

Now for students that are internal you have a record of their history, progress, and performance. They feel that it is a good investment to offer the contract to the students that have already displayed the required skills within the system.

Is that to say that anyone from the outside that was offered the 3 CFI rating contract would bomb? No, of course not, but how do you filter those who might? They just felt it was a safer bet to offer it to the people that they knew, were already here and doing well, rather then everyone.

I don't think you will find many flight schools that will offer all three CFI ratings for free, as well as pay you to take them. If you find that place GO THERE! :nana2:

Makes perfect sense to me! However, how about bring them in as AGI/IGI, have them work for 6 months while working towards the CFI and then have them sign a 1 year contract if they pass the CFI. By then you should know what kind of teacher they are?
Then additional bonus or ratings can be offered.

That wouldn't be a bad idea, however we are not short of AGIs or IGIs at the moment, so we would not be able to make such an offer.

I just got a postcard in the mail today from Pan Am. They advertise up to a $55,000 a year income potential, (that's not very clear) and a $5,000 signing bonus 30 days after you pass standardization training. Also 401k and performance bonuses.

If I could sell my house in Fort Lauderdale, I would call for an interview. Especially since I used to instruct in the Korean program at the old FPR campus. I would love to make instructing a career if the pay would be anywhere near $55K a year. Flying 100 hours a month to make that kind of money gets old real fast. Maybe I'll give them a call just to chat over the phone.

The $55,000/year is factoring in performance bonuses on 2nd year salary. It works out about right, in the best case scenario.

Waiting to hear from you.

I went to the old FPR campus as well, and started with my IR on September 4, 2001. At the time I moved down there from New England I had my private certificate, and was promised a CFI position earning $20,000/year and the opportunity to start instructing after CFI while I worked on my CFII/MEI and through ACE and Route. Well, after 9/11 the management started acting like a bunch of weaseling scumbags (although there were obviously extenuating circumstances). The promised CFI position evaporated, and since people were leaving in droves after CFI, they no longer let anyone instruct until after completion of CFII/MEI and ACE and Route. I went to them and told them that their 3 week waits for stagechecks and checkrides had pretty much exhausted my living expenses, and was told "well, here's the number to Key Bank and you can maybe get another $20,000 to finish up." I left after my CFI, and as a final parting gift was given a "poke in the eye"...here's your $1800 fee for breaking your contract. I haven't looked back since leaving, have paid off $75000 in debt in six years by busting my ass (at non-flying jobs) but would caution anybody not to listen to a word the marketing department at Pan Am says. Or their management. It would be nice if their CFI job description were true, but trust me...it comes with strings attached.

P.S. Instructors were great. Equipment was great. Great experience overall with the exceptions of above factors. I'm pretty much a glass half-full kind of guy and haven't posted anything about it in the 5 1/2 years since I left. Just don't make any major life decisions based on what these people tell you.

BTW...no disrespect intended to X-Forces. I'm simply stating my experience based on the facts of my particular situation. I hope for the people paying that kind of money for their flight training education these days that things have changed.

Bigs,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience at PAIFA in KFPR. I suspect you are not the only one in the aviation community that got a raw deal, in one shape or form, after 9/11. It doesn't make it right, but I'm sure you're not alone.

As for the PAIFA offer here at KDVT, what can I say, it is for real. As for strings attached, there is a 1 year contract. If you default on the contract you will forfeit and training benefits received. Other then that it is pretty straight forward.

Also, they are hiring CFIs, not making promises to those going through the program. We hired 2 people today, and we have about 6 interviews for next week.

I know you had a bad experience but that was a while back, and things are different.

None taken. I ain't mad at ya!

If what happened to you happened to me I would be pissed off as well, and I would be sure to spread evil. It's just that what happened to you then doesn't have any application or bearing on what is happening now. Again, it doesn't mean you could or should feel any happier about your situation.

Cool Deal, we went to FSA together.

Tell him hey for me.

You flown with him at all?

Well, I can't really say hey as I don't know who you are. :D

Hey Tyler, some guy says hey.

Who?

I'm not sure, but you knew him at FSA and he says hey.

I Haven't flown with him, as I am doing CFI instruction, and there are only a handful of guys at PAIFA that train CFIs.

Is Pan Am hiring full-time only, or would you consider part-time as well?

Sorry, but we are only hiring full time only. We have had a lot of well qualified applicants that were seeking part time work, however with our scheduling constraints (Flying your students 5 times per week), and the fact that days off are awarded by seniority, P/T employment for flight instructors was simply not feasible.

Give me a call if you are interested in full time work however.

Keith
