in less than a week i'll be in a new state and beginning another part of my life in Daytona. and as much as i want to simply transfer my room to DAB, the fact of the matter is, i'll have to be doing some picking and choosing. so in that case, considering the fact that ill be coming from California, help me out with packing guys. simple task, in theory i guess, but no so true when its a matter of days till it happens. so i figure that ill need to pack clothes and certain invaluable things id like to have with me. considering a plane ride across the country i cant bring everything to school forcing me to do some shopping when i get there. i guess im lost b.c i watch the news reporting college students moving to school and the gigantic amount of things they pack and bring with them. so here's the deal, what should i pack from home and what do i need to buy when i get there?! how much should i really bringing and what do i need and must have. thanks a lot everyone!

We're talking bare essentials here. Bring clothes, a computer, maybe some books, and that's about it. You and a roomate have to share that small space, so pack very lightly.

Don't bother bringing any jeans or longer pants until after Xmas break. It's generally so hot and humid, you won't need them. There's the standard computer/no computer debate. Personally, I'd wither and die without one, but if you don't have a laptop, the question is answered for ya in this case. Don't bother with school supplies, etc. Grab those at Target when you get to DAB. Saves room in the suitcase(s).

Buy a little fridge (not the tiny one, but the next size up because you need more space than just a few cokes) - you'll be lost without it! and when it comes to edibles in your room (snacks/crackers.. any food related items), put them in a big ol rubbermaid because the ants can get pretty darn bad in florida and they like your food - even if it has the tiniest smell of sugar!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

other than that, pack light like everyone says (you can always buy what you need when you get there) - take one sentimental item and 1 or 2 framed photos of your family, dogs/cats etc (the rooms are always way too small for more) and don't take anything that's actually valuable because you never know if your roomie or suitemate might like it more than you (no joke.. things disappear)!! I dunno if they allow things on the walls anymore (they did when i went to college but that was over..dang..10 yrs ago!)...but anyways - if you have any posters or what not, you can usually tape those up...

Oh I almost forgot. Bring some Duct Tape. You never know when you are going to need it, and Bring a White sheet for those Toga Parties.

So that puts you up to three things.
-Change of Underwear
-Duct Tape
-White Sheet

I'm not joking either here... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Buy a little fridge

Not sure if ERAU does this, but you could rent them at Mississippi State. We had cool ones that were fridges on the botttom and microwaves on top. They were called (yeah, get ready for it) microfridges.

You can also get this yellow sticky stuff at Target that goes on the back of the posters. Works like double sided tape but looks like putty. My roommate and I had tons of that in college.

Certainly bring a computer. I keep swearing that I'm going to hook up with some of your guys during a DAB layover and I need some method of contact.

Like you, I didn't want to spend an eternity in car driving down. We found a good airfare to Orlando so we'll fly down but we decided just to UPS my stuff down. So right now my computer, clothes, etc are sitting in a truck in the middle of Georgia right about now. See you next week. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

Well....my roomate told me his is throwing everything he can in his car and driving here....this inludes our tv, stereo, xbox. Other than my computer all i'm bringing with me are clothes (those are what i've sent down).
School suplies, toiletries, posters, or anything you can buy at a kmart/walmart,etc can just be taken care of when you get to Florida. This saves last minute hassle and stress when you are trying to think of every last thing you need at home.

What hall are you in?...I'm going to be in Doolitle. I'm debating if I should bring a TV/DVD player or not. Not quite sure how much of it I'll be watching doing aero. eng /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Bring it if you'll have room in the dorm. Trust me, you'll need to unwind!

I'm in doolittle as well and I dont think I'd be able to survive without the tv/dvd/cdplayer,etc essentials.

Oh and before I forget (as I dont think this question needs its own topic....How strict is Riddle when it comes to using p2p programs like Kazaa Lite, Bearshare, etc? Obviously it would slow the network down, but is there a rule against it? Or is it download at your own risk?

Well hell it sounds like we can have a JC daytona crew now....I think there is a BBQ at an FBO in DAB that Saturday, we should all try and make it.
