Anybody fly out of there? Looks like a cool club. Will be heading down to San Clemente for the winter and wanted to do some flying. Intel on the club? Personal experiences? They have a 172 out of OKB with a panel far more advanced than a 76. Hope I can figure it out...

Was going to wait until next year. Want to get a good IFR trainer now so not sure about the LSA thing. We'll see what comes out of the new category of LSA's.

You know - I have absolutely NEVER heard anyone complain about a Cessna 180 or 185. And I have a friend who gave his kid his instrument in his.

Oh - for some reason I thought at one time you had a Luscombe. Maybe I was on hallucinogenic drugs that day.

I had a Luscombe that I ground looped without damage. Before that I had a Cessna 140 I did training in out of BFI. I traded the Luscombe for a different Cessna 140 but couldn't get excited about flying it. Just moved on and don't care anymore. This club I want to join has a Citabria out of Oceanside. Maybe I'll get checked out in it.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you are enjoying retirement. I was always amazed at the number of hours you flew per year when I would see you post. When you initially said you were thinking of an LSA and doing some instruction I was interested to see if you'd far exceed your flying totals doing that compared to UPS.

I was thinking I'd have to come up with some total time number to put on the insurance form for these flying clubs. My best guess is 300 hours a year times 31 years. That's conservative. Less in the beginning and I flew more towards the end. Add in the 4500 I had when I got hired that's 13800 as my best guess. I really never cared until now. Also have been a CFI for 40 years, which sounds impressive, but it's mostly due to Gleim. I saw some pics of the Technam P2008. Just very expensive. And I still worry about how LSA's handle in the wind. Only one way to find out.

One of the things in the articles that caught my eye about that Texas Colt from before was they said it handled more like a heavier/real airplane. This comment kind of struck home because it was what my grandpa said about why he liked Aeronca Champs and Chiefs for training over Piper Cubs.
