i was just wondering, didnt wanna start any agruments or anything of the nature. i would just liek to know if anyone knows any good things about the mesa programs or bad things about the mesa program. not to confuse that with people giving advice not to go there, just would liek to know if anyone has any good info about the pace and some of the other mesa programs. thanks.

There's a bazillion posts about this in the Mesa Airlines/San Juan College forum. Go to the main forum page and click on "Collegiate Aviation."

ive seena and read most of em, but most of them are pretty old, i was just wondering if mesa as a airline was still doing well, or if any of the students were gettings jobs or not...

Keep in mind what is happening now doesn't mean it will be happening in the future.

I instructed @ FMN for a little under 12 months and in that time I saw EXTREMELY brisk hiring (former MPD CFI's had a 6-8 month upgrade in the Dash-8 when I first got hired on last August, and two were offered DIRECT captain positions without any prior air carrier time) to NO hiring for several months, and then back to brisk hiring again (time from graduation to class date was under 2 WEEKS with RJ upgrades dipping under 2 years).

Mesa is one of the safest bets when it comes to job security. It was told to me this past september that they need to hire approximately 30/month at that time due to attrition only. However, I must say my QOL was better instructing there than being at a decent regional now - I can only imagine what it would be like to fly the line there...

Keep in mind the people who didn't get hired out of the program probably will have a tough time getting hired other places, i.e. they just don't interview well if you get my drift. The hire rate for the PACE guys was a little over 90% when I was there, but I've heard an overall average is around 80% or so.

Also, it takes about 4 months or so for you to finish the program. If you already have you CFI or are about to earn it I would suggest doing that instead, as you'll put the $$ earning something that will qualify you for a job at almost any flight school vs. using it to put all your eggs in one basket. If you're timing is good, however, the program does work.

WHAT? You have got to be kidding me? That is ridiculous! It give new definition to "Street Captain".

So tell me that Mesa is going to be a good place to work after they have an accident or two. Those policies will get them there.

Yeah Mesa does pretty well at the expense of its pilots and other regional airlines. Sounds like a great place to work! I know some Mesa pilots and they are a good group, but frankly I feel sorry for them. Why not instruct, build time, open up doors at other airlines (or corporate or freight for that matter) and work someplace that will treat you like, or something close to, a professional. It blows my mind that people spend a helluva a lot of $$$ to work at the airline that no one really wants to work for just because they are in a big hurry???!!!

Unfortunately yes, they do fly them and for 50 seat pay!!! But hey it's a big new shiny jet who cares right!! That is why I don't like programs like PACE and MAPD, it keeps a steady supply of labor for MESA who otherwise wouldn't get a jet job. Thus they no other options and will do just about anything to fly the thing including sell out the industry by allowing substandard pay rates. By the way before anyone gets mad, I know there are many great people at Mesa who don't agree with the scenario I describe and are fighting hard to make MESA a better place to work, but my guess is most didn't go to MAPD or PACE.

I know, perhaps I took it a bit too far. I'm sorry if I rubbed anyone the wrong way. With that being said, I'm confident that those guys will make vast improvements in their next contract which I believe is up for renewal in 2007. No doubt those poor folks deserve a break.
