PA-34 Mentor Pilots Florida and Texas

I saw this on climbto350.com but again no password so if someone with a password wants to share with more info that would be good. First off is this a paid position? If not I apologize for putting this in the jobs available.

The write up was a little confusing..it sounds like you would be the check out pilot and teaching them to operate in a "crew" environment. Which to me sounds like a lot of cross country time but maybe as a safety pilot? not really sure.

http://www.atriplep.com/ That's their website, maybe you can contact them through there to find out more.

You basically sit in the back seat and babysit two students building twin time. I'm not going to go in the "logging flight time from the backseat" discussion. If this is the company I have heard of, they do pay, but it is laughable.

The company is called APPP. I don't know how it's now but a few months back, I spoke to someone in the company and he wanted me to pay him 20k for 200 hours time building and then I'd be guaranteed a "mentor" job for flying 100 hours atleast. I don't understand how you can log PIC sitting in the bag seat. What would you tell your employer when you go for an interview.

Sounds like safety pilot work in a PA-34. In which one person logs PIC XC, and the other gets PIC safety pilot time, while an instructor sits in the back.

Really just another form of PFT.

And how would the instructor log the time? I'm sure there are plenty of guys out there that would log it as dual given, but I don't see how they could ethically do that.

The worst part is, if someone does something stupid, and violations need to be issued, you know the feds are more than likely going to violate you for even being there, even though you had no acess to the controls.

I think the worst part is actually if someone does something stupid that you DON'T have access to the controls <shudder>

I would never log dual given from the backseat or fly as a babysitter across the country with 2 students in the front seats. There was a discussion on here a while back about the whole "logging flight time from the backseat" ordeal. It is your logbook, and you can log whatever you want, but you will also be the one explaining it to the Feds or future employers during interviews. From what I remember, this place pays their "mentor pilots" $10-$12/hr, factor in food and other expenses while you are touring the country for a week, you will be left with nothing. But hey, you get a bunch of Multi time, right?

That's just criminal right there. I was making more than that instructing (where I could actually reach the controls) 5 years ago. As for "getting" multi time....well, we've already been over that. Sadly, they've probably gotten a broken desk from the weight of all the applications by now.

Why doesn't someone report this to the FSDO? Be the change you seek.

Depending on which part of Orlando and Texas it is, the FSDO might not have time to investigate it. Took us months to get the FSDO to do anything about the guy flying in GKY without a license and a student endorsement that expired 5 years prior.

They are in PMP, I got a form letter (spam) from them today.

Maybe, maybe not. I knew a dude who busted airspace in the right seat. The guy wasn't a CFI, just another commercial pilot. Regardless, the guy who was PIC, was PIC and was at fault.
