Operation Raincheck Potomac TRACON 10/29/2011

Highly recommended for those of you that operate around the DC SFRA and also those who just want to see the other side of the mike. As far as I know they do allow some listening in.

For those that are unaware "Operation Raincheck" is FAA-speak for Come see what the other side does. It is a seminar/tour of Potomac Approach.

I did a tour with a manager at Potomac once and it was a very impressive facility. The staff were very friendly and helpful with the mission I was trying to complete in their area. Highly recommended visit.

Dang, that's during my vacation during which we'll not be in the area. Would love to come check it out sometime. How often do they do this?

A quick phone call to the training folks at a facility, your NATCA FacRep, or a simple call to the secretary to have someone give you a call back should yield a prompt phone call to see when a good time would be for you to stop by.

You don't have to wait for one of these events.

A80, ZTL, and ATL ATCT have put up with me multiple times. All it took was a couple phone calls.

Just got home from VA. Very impressed, the staff put a lot of work in this event. They have answers to ANY questions. Driving to and from was brutal it took me 10 hours both ways but well worth it. Highly recommended.

Agreed it was a very well put on event. Not to mention completely impressive considering the last radar room I was in was CAKs, which left maybe a bit to be desired. It was extremely informative to learn about the controllers capabilities, some of which I weren't aware of even after 3 years of CFI'ing.
