Operation Hero Miles Started out when back in 2003 when the Pentagon started out giving troops stationed in Iraq two-week leaves. The soldiers were flown by the military to Germany, or Baltimore/Washington(KBWI), Dallas/Fort Worth(KDFW) or Atlanta(KATL) for free. Then the soldier pays his way from there. Hero miles was founded to provide free round trip tickets for the soldiers. New Law enacted by congress and since January 1 2004 the Pentagon now pays airfare for these soldiers.

So now Operation Hero Miles now is used for soldiers returning home on Emergency Leave, and to fly family members of wounded soldiers to US Military hospitals so they can be bedside of love ones.
