One proposed answer to Ohare Problems

Put down the crack pipe and have another biscuit dude -

GYY won't ever be anything than it is now - well maybe if the airlines issue Kevlar vests to all pax.

The answer to O'Hare's problems is simple ... BUILD MORE RUNWAYS. They need runways and terminal capacity there and they need them badly. A third airport is a STUPID idea ... nobody will use it. AA and UA are sure not going to relocate their hubs to Peotone (halfway to friggin' St. Louis) or Gary (have Kevlar vest, will travel). I hate to say I agree with Dictator Daley on anything, but the O'Hare Modernization Plan as proposed is the best hope of making things better at ORD. Having runways that are actually parallel and would keep a 100+ AAR all the way down to 200-1/2 is the only thing that will ever make that airport work well.

They need to start moving dirt NOW or things will only get worse. Expanding O'Hare is the only VIABLE plan to solve the problems. Peotone or Gary are useless ideas (hell, Peotone is a cornfield now, and 50 miles from downtown), and Midway is full.

But what do I know ... I'm just the birdman ...

They do have parallel runways. Just not all of them. I believe there are two sets of paralells just from memory. But yeah, something needs to be done.

Hey jason, GYY would be great, Its the birthplace of Micheal Jackson, So that in itself would be a major Marketting tool.
They just need to rename the airport. "K MJI" Mike Jackson Intl.

On behalf of the entire flight crew we'd like to welcome you to Micheal Jackson Intl airport" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

EDIT...actually 3 sets of runways that are parallel after further review. http://www.naco.faa.gov/content/naco/online/airportdiagrams/00166AD.PDF

So you already get down to Cessna (Piper, take your pick) altitudes 50NM out of MDW to get under ORD traffic. What will they do at GYY? I guess have you land on the freeway 50NM out and taxi to the airport to get under MDW traffic?

The ORD "problem" will fix itself. A little patience.

I agree, let the free market fix the problem. If it gets really bad(not that its not already), when making reservations people will ask "where do I change planes?" When the call UAL or AA and find out they go to ORD, they will say no thanks and call someone else.

I also think that ORD is reaching the limit on growth. Even if you build more runways, you need more taxiways and will need to wait to cross other runways to get to the new runways that are further out. Thus more delays.
