Once fired.... now, hired!

I took a flight today in a C172 with Vista Air's owner... at the end of the flight he offered me a position as flight instructor for Vista Air in Whiteman Airport (SoCal).

So.... there you go... now we can talk about something other than my last job. This new job pays $26/hour which IIIIII think is good. However, some of you might start crap because I didn't request medical benefits or a 401k plan, haha.

I will most likely be training there for my Instrument Rating. I'll have to look you up if you have your CFII.

Greendaypilot did you see the add at the air group for a KA pilot?

yeah, but they're asking for an ATP and I'm not even qualified to take the written. They're also asking for type rating, something else I dont have.

Oh... that's right... you're over in that ritzy area, haha.... Jim Edmonds is from Diamond Bar... I'm personally from Covina... its a long hour drive to WHP.

Anyway, I hate CNO... for those of you who've flown CNO's ILS... you know you're at the MM if you start smelling cow sh*t... but its cool... its a good airport for instrument approaches.

Pshh i swear, flying out of that airport is like crazy. Traffic all over you and you're flying to avoid all these different airspaces.

But all in all, it's cool by me. I like learning to fly in super duper congested airspace.

Oh i agree on the cow dung man. Smells pretty bad. Havent really had it though except my intro flight. Either winds were blowing it, or cows werent out!:rawk:

Congrats Greenday! What types of planes are at the school? The pay rate sounds pretty good. The pay rate where I am at starts at $18.00 per hour, but goes to $31.00 per hour after 6 months.

Congrats GreenDay! I'd say you have done pretty well. Keep the shiny side up! (or sometimes down if you're doing aerobatics :))

If I can ask, why such a difference in price? Is it to just get you to lock in and stay after the 6months? Couldnt they do that by giving that up front?

The hourly wage difference is to reward you for staying with them for atleast 6 months. I had to look at the rate progression, but it starts at $18.00 per hour until the third month. It then goes up to $23.00 per hour until the sixth month. After the sixth month the pay rate jumps to $31.00 which is by far the most I have seen for a sub contractual instructor.

Some schools do that kind of stuff. At my old school I had to get checked out in the Arrow and Cessna's and we had to pay for the check out, but after 6 months we would get reinbursed

Whiteman is in Pacoima just off the 5, not a very nice area I might add
Yeah, its Pacoima.... not a very nice area, but most of the Cessna fleet are newer models (even some Glass, G1000 Cessna's). It's a small airport, but from what they told me, they get a lot of clients from VNY because a lot of people don't want to train in the very busy VNY environment.

...speaking of VNY... has anyone seen 16R? I keep hearing a bunch of good reviews
