OJT - on the job training , where ?

Hi guys,

I'm still applying to every kind of airlines here in EU and some in the UAE. Still no sign of interest . Therefore I was thinking about taking an on the job training at any airline. I know about the program at Air Baltic, but it's crazy how much they charge you for that: 7000€ for 90 days , not counting food and accomodation (flight are included though).

I've stayed in contact with the OCC head of training at Air Baltic and he told me that 10 days is the best lenght to have an overall knowledge about how an OCC works. But it's still quite expensive 890€ , again, not counting accomodation and food. And most importantly if it worth or not to take it only for 10 days.

Do you guys know about any training on the job course here in EU , which is less expensive? Or in the US? Please give me some tips. I'm feeling lost. I've some back-up plans , such as enrolling at a college in UK studying aviation management , just to improve my cv. But again, I don't know if it worth to ask for a student loan if my target is to become a FD.

Thanks to anyone!

Please don't tell me a carrier is doing a "pay to fly" style for Dispatching??? Gulfstream Airlines aka Silver Airways did that for new FO's wanting to build hours a few years ago. Baltic Air is essentially committing highway robbery.... $10,000 USD for 90 days $1,200 USD for 10 days OJT not including other expenses? I would ask them if you could just visit for one day for FREE.?!? NO ONE should pay for OJT.

I know, it's unbelievable! That's why I don't know if it's worth it. I mean how much will I learn in 10 days? They issue a IATA certificate stating that you finished the training. The training it's tailor made based on my needs: for example if I wanna do only familiarization with fligh planning softwares I can focus only on that. The thing is, is it worth for future employment? Or would it be just trash? Since I'm paying on my own and due to what you've just said I assume that's it's crazy to pay for OJT . And probably worthless doing only 10 days.

I would be very wary of it myself, but I have no idea what the hiring process is like at European companies either. I am pretty sure no UAE airline would hire you without actual "working for an airline" experience unless you were a citizen of the UAE based on what I heard from a friend who worked there as a dispatcher for a few years.

Yeah I know that's difficult to land a job in a major or a big passenger airline without previous experience. That's why I'm applying to charter airlines and business airlines. And I've also realized that there are so many out there, I didn't know that. I've been told they usually hire young people with no experience.
