I was just wondering how many of us here served or are currently serving in Iraq or in operations in support of OIF.
Sound off your unit and AO.

Sgt Dominic Lovato, USMC 2nd LAR -everywhere from An-Nasiriyah, Al-Kut, Baghdad, Tikrit and everywhere in between. Mar 03-May 03.

354th Fighter Squadron. North and Central Iraq....too numerous cities to mention.....from Mosul to An Nasiriah....from Al Asad to east Bagdad.

Thanks for the air support. We ran a couple of fixed wing strikes North of Nasiriyah and Al-Hayy. Not the ideal CAS but it definitely made for a helluva show.

AC-130 was, IMO, probably the best platform for CAS over there.

I knew the world was going to hell when I had a Predator UAV acting as a Forward Air Controller and directing me where to attack once.......in essence, I had a robot telling me what to do.

Although I didn't go as I am not even in the military, I still want to thank all of you who are risking your lives for our freedom.

I am an Amn, soon to be A1C in 4 days, in the Air Force. I was at Tallil AB Iraq for Mar04-Jun04. Will return to a base in Kuwait in a couple of months

I never had the opportunity to see a 130 gunship in action. Although we did have a Light Armored Vehicle Air Defense Variant that had a 6 barrel 20 mm gatling gun meant for shooting down fast movers. Seeing that thing engage dismounts or any other thing for thatb matter was a sight to see. It scared me just seeing it fire. Anyway, there something about helos that makes me feel more comfortable. I guess it's that whole hover thing.

I have a great video of an AC-130 leveling a Taliban stronghold...except it's 160MB's...a little big to email.

I just noticed your little Assault Weapons Ban thingamajig. Since it is always a good idea to talk about politics, sex, and religion, what is your take on the ban? I know I am getting off topic but I couldn't resist.

It's been totally ineffective. Even the gun-grabbers admit it. It hasn't reduced crime one iota because so-called 'assault weapons' are used in a tiny fraction of all crimes. Basically, it bans certain firearms based on superficial cosmetic items...bad precedent.

The only people that gun control laws restrict are the law-abiding people and they aren't the ones doing crimes, now are they? Do you think a bank robber is going to say "ya know, I don't want to use this illegal magazine because it's a high capacity one when I rob this bank...I might get into trouble"...the whole premise is ludicrous.

For more info (stats and such) on the AWB (Clinton) gun ban check out: http://www.clintongunban.com/

PS--If you want to debate the merits, I'll happily do so, but please take it to the squawk box (lavatory)....

OSW/DESERT FOX/OIF/OEF

Riyadh AB, SA; Al Dhafra, UAE; Al Udeid, Qatar; and others...
Over four years cumulative in the Persian Gulf AOR, mostly in a tent. That's why I'm a Reservist now.

OSW twice, I had to sit out OIF, but supported three Detachments from Homeguard. I wanted to go so bad, but my Doc wouldn't sign off on it. Oh well, FCF's kept me sort of busy

I did all 6 OSW from PSAB I hate that place with a passion. I was there when he had to transfer eveything over to hard billets. What a pain in the ass. For OEF I was in Oman, wasnt all that bad, but the trasit to/from Afghan. was horrible. We would come off station and still have 4 more hours in the air. We flew 16-17 hours every other day. One day, we got extended to 19 if I remember correctly
