Oh Delta XXVIII

Hmm. Might need to start flying United.

I nominate you for the Playa Haters’ Ball, Playa of the Year award. @SlumTodd_Millionaire is nominated for… After giving up Delta, this man hates Southwest so much, he’d rather skip the nonstop on them to fly on United and connect though somewhere.

Delta has been in touch with the White House throughout this, so I would wager they are doing this knowing they aren’t giving up any government contracts.

Looking at the bigger picture, I would argue Delta has done more to get not only their employees vaccinated but also the general population vaccinated than just about any non-health wellness company (let alone airline) out there. They project 95% vaccinated by next month. Let’s not make this a bigger deal than what it is.

It sounds more like a numbers game than "forced to comply". If their labor force is already better than 90% vaccinated and future employees will be, which will cover any losses through attrition, they don't need to have an ultimatum. Why create and enforce a rule if you don't need to?

I very clearly got your point and vehemently disagree with it.
We’ll that’s fine, and I’m thrilled that in your part of the world businesses are achieving 100% vaccination rates without needing a mandate, but in mine that’s virtually impossible so Delta getting to 90% plus without resorting to that measure is very impressive.

The point is that anything short of 100% is unacceptable. And that’s why employer mandates are a necessity.

Yah, mostly what’s happening is:
“I’m not anti vaccine, I think people should get it but without being forced!”
“Cool, so you’ll use your position as a politician/church leader/businessman to encourage people to get vaxxed?”
“Hahahahaha noooo”
“Well you’ll at least address vaccine misinformation and conspiracy theories publicly then?”
“Hahahaha also no”
“So….what will you do?”
“Tell everyone I don’t think we need a mandate”

A company with a 95% vaccination rate is not the problem.

correct. 5% of the company is the problem. Cut em.

Now imagine you’re a company who followed the EO, put in a mandate. Now your workforce decided to do a sick in as protest, causing massive cancellations and tarnishing your image. But then another company is like “eh, we’re close enough we’re not going to do it.” and everyone else is like *shrug* good enough. Either the mandate should be enforced, meaning in this case goodbye federal contracts for Delta, or it shouldn’t be in place at all.

Sounds like good management to me.

The mandate wasn’t given because companies like Delta weren’t doing enough. Delta (among others) have led the way in vaccination rates since the beginning. If their vaccination plan is working, and the government agrees, and they have the opportunity to avoid employee discontent, then bravo to them.
