Odd jump seat question

If you had someone show up who was a dispatcher and in CASS but they had a physical disability ( in a wheelchair ) would you allow them to ride in the jumpseat? Would that be illegal because they would now be an ACM?

Riding the actual jumpseat? No.

A seat in the back? Eh. Probably ok.

Gutsy move to be jumpseating in a wheelchair though.

Either way, you'd want to involve a supervisor to make the call (along with the PIC authority of allowing them or disallowing them).

How do they do their FAM ride???

The reg. (121.463) allows you do conduct observations in a simulator, but you have to do the entire 5 hours.

The only problem I have is egress. Can this person get out of my way fast enough if I have to nope the hell right out of the flight deck? Am I going to be stuck up there for two hours with no recourse when my preflight diet coke introduces myself to my bladder? Who's responsible for getting them out in the event of an emergency evacuation?

These questions tend to lean me towards a hard no.

I always figured if you’re in the JS you would have to comply with exit row seating requirements by default.

I probably wouldn’t feel comfortable with it. He’ll pretty much be dead weight in an emergency.
