October Flying

It was an odd month. I flew a lot which is good, but I was relatively close to Ben (as close as internet friends could be I guess?). The next day another pilot I knew was killed in his Aztec. I had talked to him the day before. That brings me to 14 people I have known killed in plane accidents. Anyway, here are some photos. We did take delievery of a new Meridian which is cool. I got to see the PiperJet at NBAA and play with the G3000 which was also cool.

That is all,

Sweet pics.
Kinda wish I had stayed in Daytona after all just for the scenery but glad I didn't end up back at Riddle for the expense. Though I did find out the GI Bill would have ended up footing all but flight expenses after I had already left.
Off topic but do you know why all Fl houses have those screens around pools? Is it bugs or insurance. I know here in Texas you have to have a fence but no one has those screens. In Daytona they're everywhere.

We had an enclosure when we lived in Tampa. At first I wasn't thrilled about the idea, thinking I rather have an outdoor pool, but it wasn't easy finding one without. It grew on me very quickly, though.

Soon found out that although it's not easy to see in, from the inside looking out it almost seems like it's not there. So there's a privacy factor. Also, they help keep leaves, debris and most critters out... bugs to a certain extent but not entirely. Plus in the hotter months, it is cooler inside them keeping the water from warming up as much as without the screen.

Insurance was unaffected by having one although we also had a fence around the back yard.

Every time Alex...Every damn time you make me more and more jealous of you....lol

Awesome pics man.

CK, I'm definitely jealous of the life you lead. The Meridian looks like a very fun plane to fly.

Aside, how was the G3000? You mentioned you got to play with it at NBAA and I just saw an ad for the first time for it. Looks like they've really kicked it up a notch!

Great pics as always.....but c'mon man, you were at NBAA and didn't come to see me?! I woulda hooked you up! Santana played at the honeywell gig, and us fuel hawkers know how to live it up too. Next year, Atlanta...whoo hoo :sarcasm:

We just drove over for the day from Daytona. I was planning on stopping by booth 5100 and surprising you, but when we got to the registration desk and they asked for $600, we kindly said no thanks. I called Piper and they met us with two passes to get into the static display. The only reason I wanted to go was to see the PiperJet (we have two on order). I had no desire to walk around the convention hall. I'll be at the AOPA Summit next weekend if you are going there.

Aside, how was the G3000?

It is like using an I-Phone. If you want the weather page you click the weather icon, flightplan page click the flightplan icon, ect. It will run three 15 inch screens (two PFD's and an MFD) in the Piperjet. It will be the perfect cockpit IMO.

Nice, you on Flickr?

Nope!

Thanks for the comments,

Alex

I would have walked you guys in! 5100 was right by the door. Not going back to florida for a while, but I will be at the ICAS convention in Vegas the first weekend in December, if you guys are coming out west.

I doubt I will go to ICAS, December is a busy month work wise. If you see anyone from Panchito or the Yak Demo Team there say hi and let them know you know me.

Alex.
