November 29 Stans Class

Hey guys, just got the email with all the orientation info, we have to be there this monday by 8:30AM to meet with Angie Brandt (administrator) then 8:45AM we have to take a written test, upon completion and passing grade we undergo drug screening. It seems like that is pretty much it for monday, then tuesday will be from 8:30 to about 3:15

Study the Commercial, CFI, and possibly FOI Gleim. My oh my how the process has changed!

I just got a email too! Anyone know how long it takes to get standarized? They said 30 hours but how many days? Also do they still get a pretty good number of students? I am worried about moving then making no money

Standardization times vary, but my initial 141 VFR single stands, which is what most of you will go through took us about 3 weeks from the first day till we had students.
As far as PTN stands I believe the class took close to 6 weeks. During all this time your pay checks will suck. Maybe 10-15 hours per week or less.
Work after stands may be slim to start, right now we have almost no new students showing up. As was discussed before most of our instructors do not consistently make 30 hours/week. But in the new year they is a lot of rumored attrition and if the airline do hire like we are hoping I am sure many of our instructors will be leaving.
I am sure most PTN instructors do make 40 hours but no multi time. Also they have to commit to a long contract about 15 months I believe and get a slightly higher pay rate.
As for how big the class is going to be, I asked yesterday and was told that they currently had 9 'responses' and they are looking for 15 new hires.

Happy thanksgiving to everyone!, I was wondering if anyone down in Vero is looking for a roommate or know of a very cheap place I can rent out, I currently live in Daytona Beach and I dont know how long I can endure the 2 hour commute, especially during stands. If anyone knows of anyone and can help me out I would really appreciate it. thanks!

Have you tried to ask FSA if they can rent you a Bungalow or something for the length of Stands, I know they don`t do this usually if they are busy but a guy of my stands was able to do it after explaining them his situation (he was from Orlando). After I left FSA I went back to get rid of some of my stuff I had in storage, sell my car...they allowed me to stay in a bungalow.

There was an advert for a roommate hanging up in dispatch for I think $325. I'll see if its still there next time I go in.

The class seemed to be completely full. Thanks for advice about studying the Gleims! That made the FOI portion a breeze.

Swiss is the way to go. Mid next year programs change to complete more multi time. And pay rate is good.

Pitch for glide path, pwr for airspeed.....

Hey Moose, they did express their need for the PTN and the swiss program, unfortunately most of the people in the stands class with myself included do not qualify for the positions, I think out of the 11 only about 3 have enough dual given and MEI so those guys will be interviewing today, probably as we speak.

I do have a question for you guys that work here, does FSA allow you as IP to rent their aircraft? I am mostly interested in renting the seminole to build up my PIC time so that I can ultimely start MEI training.

Yes we are able to rent aircraft at a reduced rate. I believe the seminole is around $250/hour. Still a little steep but I am sure if you ask around you will be able to find people to split it with.

oh man! that is a little much, but Im sure I can find someone in my same situation to split the cost with. Well I am real happy with the facilities and I really hope I make it through next week, I have the flight on wednesday with Keller, I know I have to know everything but any other tips you might be able to give me to stand out a little more?

At Sun Aviation they have a Seminole that rents for cheaper (to take it solo you need 50 hours on type), I'm not sure what's the rate right now, but I use to rent it for around 200$ wet...if you need a CFI ask for Dennis..

I'm a little confused here. Why the need for PIC? FSA's part 61 MEI course has about 10hrs of flight time built into it. All of which would be PIC. Unless it's been a very long time since you've flown a multi, I wouldn't waste the money on building time in it.

Know your memory checklist items very well. Review the maneuvers in the cadet training manual and fly them how the book says. Don't add your own personal touch. CK is a great pilot and you can learn a lot from him.
