I have noticed 3-5 days of growth is now a professionally acceptable look.

Anyone doing this in the cockpit yet? i haven't tried.

I don't know about 5 days. On me that starts to look bad, but 3 days, yep. I don't fly 121... and I could probably do the mountain man thing if I really wanted. (135 pax)

Where I work, beards are not permitted, and your ALPA-stache, if present, must not extend beyond the corners of your mouth. Oxygen masks apparently don't seal too well over beards.

I was sitting in a fbo one day and got called out by some old timer get off my lawn type after not shaving for about a week. Something like "I can't believe your boss is ok with you looking that unprofessional." I just shrugged my shoulders and changed the tv over to MSNBC. He left the room right after that.

Anything past three days is waay too long for someone like me that has the middle eastern look in this profession. I just hope they don't think I'm part of the jihadi movement with a masterplan especially the stereotypical world we live in today. IMO

I think it also depends on the country. I seen an indian pilot with a turban and his full grown beard.

That is my look 365 days a year.

It really depends on the country, in Europe for example it is not a big deal, especially if you look at airlines of the Southern part you will never find any restriction. If you have ever seen a crew from a Greek airline you may have noticed that most of the pilots have a 3-4 days (trimmed) beards.

Acceptable with who? Are we talking in aviation, or just the professional working world?
I see it everywhere. Doctors, lawyers, all over television of course. Haven't seen it in the cockpit but its just a matter of time I suppose.

I think the doosh nozzle cast of Grey's Anantomy started it.

A few weeks is fine.

I look like I haven't shaved immediately after I'm done shaving....I'm just blessed to be a hairy SOB. In my military career, I have gotten talked to about my shaving practices starting in basic and up to now!

I kinda curious how things will go for me if/when I make it into professional aviation. I can shave in the shower and look like Billy Gibbons by the time I'm dressed.

I'm a hairy beast too and have a nice, trimmed beard. I let the beard grow the length of my hair. If I just got a hair cut (get it really short) then the beard gets taken down to match. As the hair grows, the beard grows. The beard isn't to be some Grey's Anatomy doosh, it's due to the horrible ingrown hairs I get if I shave everyday.

I shave every other day. Otherwise I get razor burn and then bleed all over my collar. Figure a 5 o'clock shadow is probably more professional looking
