AP - Northwest Airlines Corp., which is working to emerge from bankruptcy, is planning to recall hundreds of furloughed pilots this year and next, more than it initially said it would recall, the pilot's union said.

I think the pilots should tell Northwest to go eff themselves.

Hmmm, and this leaves Compass where?

I'm telling ya guys, Compass was brought up to get the mainline guys to fold on the scope. Now, part of the deal was that it gave jobs to the furloughed mainliners, which the union signed off on as a good thing. Now, if most of those guys start getting re-called, NWA won't HAVE to spend the money to get Compass up and running. They can put those re-calls at mainline instead of Compass and farm out the 76 seaters to the lowest bidder.

.....Annual pilot wages at Northwest now range from $27,000 for newly hired pilots to $170,000 for a 747 captain.

Wow.....27K.....Yikes.....Dang that's low....But I wonder when the last 'New Hire' came on board at NWA.....

This isnt news, or at least not NEW news. They have already started classes, with another one starting in Dec. They have a bout 700 on the street. The last couple hundred will still go back to their year one pay.I think there are good number with less than a year in. The ones that made it off probation before getting furloughed got 1 year of longevity while being on the street. So if you got furloughed during year 2, you come back at year 3 pay, with probably just a few more months until 4th year.

Good to hear that they are recalling, my guess is that NW will be hiring by middle to end of 07. ANd with AA recalling, thats a good sign for the industry. I think AA was the last ones.

What's the status on United and US Airways? If they're starting re-calls, I think we can officially say "recovering." Or at least "attrition has caught up."

I know United has been recalling for a while, my friend just got recalled and started class in mid-october, I think she was a June 2000 hire. From when I jumpseat on United, the pilots tell me that they cant train pilots fast enough. That they are so short handed and cancelling flights because of it. My guess is that they will start hiring off the street end of 07 or early 08. I have no clue as to how many more they ahve to recall.

As for Airways, I know a while back they reclled 50 or so. but thats the last I heard about them. And rumor is Delta will be hiring next year too. Maybe Mr. T could shed some light on that one.

If it weren't for the work rules and corporate culture over at NWA, I'd consider going there down the road. As it is, I don't think being an actual child of NWA is much better than being a step-child.

As far as pay, I personally don't care what 747 CAs make since I doubt I'll ever see that anyway. All but DAL and US Air seem to have comparable first and second year FO pay, though. What I want to know is why in the hell does an EMB190 FO make $20 MORE than a 737/A320/A330/757 FO at US Air (according to airlinepilotcentral)?

Personally I doubt NWA will take longer than mid '07 to start hiring - I work with a furloughee who will be one of the last to get recalled and he's expecting a recall in 3 months MAX. Right now according to their union they are only getting about a 30% accept rate (the last time I heard) and unlike UAL who is getting alot of 'bypasses' - NWA is getting an awful lot of flat out 'no' answers so it all depends on what those bypass guys do.

I'm not really confident that the $27K for year 1 is an accurate number...I know they've given up a ton but I've seen the newest pay rates and just doing the simple (payrate * guarantee) formula I got about $39K - still not great but not as bad. Maybe I added wrong somewhere along the line - who knows?!

I'm not sure how APC gathers their data but with the whole MDA fiasco alot of the guys that went to the 190 from ALG (and I believe PDT as well but not 100% sure) were able to start on the 190 at a significantly higher pay rate than they should have - something like year 5 pay even though they are really year 1 - because of a contract stipulation that they were able to exploit.......maybe that skewed the data - if it didn't sumthin's really messed about!

That was the original recall during the summer. They recently have recalled about 60 starting in Jan. (It originally started out as 15, but the class was delayed and more recalls were added.)

Rumors have it that they will recall about 20-30 pilots each month for the first half of 2007, mostly due to attrition, along with the 190's coming aboard.

That's news to me....since the first 190 hasn't even been delivered yet. ;)

I'm just playing, we all know you mean't the 170.

Tell me how this goes. I know a FO on the A320 been there about 12 years and is upgrading to Capt on the DC-9? How do upgrades work when there are furloughs going on?!

That's pretty normal.....if a Captain retires and they need a capt then they have an upgrade class even if there are active furloughs.

Is that what you meant?
