I was up in the Swift this weekend. Up in western N. Carolina and then back down through Pickens and that area. The winds and wx was such that even the Swift was behaving. Most of the color is gone but little fields like Macon Co and Andrews pose some interesting challenges.

Have any of you flow into Copperhill, TN (1A3)? I loooove that airport, the gf and I took a long road trip up that way for "leaf season" and it was beautiful.

I'm glad to see Lake Lanier at full pool, but this weather reminds me of the PacNW...and my family/friends are blaming me for it all!

Yes. Copperhill is an interesting field. I also have gone into Dahlonega when the fuel was cheap. Another airport with a challenging approach to the runway.

I am trying to visit most of the fields in north Georgia. My eventual goal is at least one landing/TG at every airfield in Georgia including ATL. That will probably have to be done at 3AM.

Because it is small, nobody there, and surrounded by trees?:)

When I was there I was offered a 'crew car' and the guy was quite nice but yes, it is a small airport.

I enjoy the small airports and often find that walking around the hangars is a discovery trip. I was in Colorado and walking up and down a row of hangars and inside was a pristine Hawker Sea Fury. Another time there was an A-1. And at one of the north Georgia fields some guy had an S2F 'Stoof" that was being refurbished. Nice stuff from an era gone by.

I love the approach to Runway 20 at 1A3, esp since you fly around the hill going downwind, base, final. That whole area is quite pretty I think.

If you like being able to walkup and touch history, go down to Douglas, GA (KDQH). The DPE down in that area, Bob Harless, is one of the best DPE's I've ever used. He's got a great collection of aircraft that he's restoring/helping to restore.

what types? What aircraft?

Last time I was there, there was a B-17, a B-25 and a C-47. I think there maybe a P-40 Warhawk being restored as well.

Pic #6.... ahhhh good ole chicken houses!

Old fashion South Georgia Summer, 'bout Mid August, 102 degrees, humidity around 345% with a heat index somewhere north of the surface temp of Venus, oh the funk... nothing like'em!

I made a fuel stop in RMG (Russell/Rome, GA) before. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL up there. By far some of the best scenery between Florida and St. Louis.
