Howdy All,

No posts for over a month. I haven't read the school forums for several months and I hadn't heard about the changes. Today I complete the online form to request information on the PACE program. If there's anything worthy or new in what they send me, I'll let you know.

Regards,

JR

When ya lookin at going? I'm rushing to get my Riddle stuff done to get my AS out of the way. Shooting for the Oct 6th interview (doubt I can make the Sept 1st one) and starting in Jan.

Hello Kellwolf,

It wouldn't be til next year sometime. I've got a vacation scheduled for October. After that, I'll need to do some financial wrangling, get my IPC and Com SEL. Hopefully, the program & hiring stay strong for the next year of so.

Thanks for asking,

JR

Well, with United getting that $1 billion loan, that stays their execution for about another year. There's talk of them sending more flights Mesa's way since it's dirt cheap. America West may also increase flights with Mesa. US Air is a lost cause, and Mesa is already starting to break away as much as they can. Most of that flying is EAS anyway. Plus, they've probably got contingency plans for everything. I doubt JO would let his precious motocycle fleet go without a fight....

Actually we will be putting into service 10 more CRJs in the US Airways system in September. That is in addition to the 36 ERJs that all work for US Airways, and several CRJs based in PHL all in US Airways colors. The only EAS flying is done by 1900s. The number of those is very slowly decreasing, but Mesa is still very much a part of the US Airways system and will get some 35+% of its revenue from the US Airways partnership.

That's good to hear, I think. Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping US Air somehow DOES pull through. More of a shot at me getting a job next summer and moving up that seniority roster a little bit faster.

Hello All,

I received a package from the MAPD program this week, but it didn't come with any specific information on the PACE program. Guess I'll have to start checking out MesaLounge.com. I see that John Tenney & Cosmo visit there as well.

If anyone has any specifics on the program. i.e. the syllabus and class schedule, please let me know.

Good Luck All,

JR

Thank, Wolf!

I've got a 4-year degree (Aviation) from San Jose...just need to try my hand at a 1rst class medical in a few months and save some more mula!

If you feel like going to Memphis, I got the name of a kick @ss AME. Other than that, 1st class medicals (in my experience) have been pretty anti-climatic. I'll get all stressed over them, and in fifteen minutes walk out with the slip of paper saying I'm good for another 6 months. Now the mula part is where I'm concerned..... If ya can get everything done and get into the Jan class, you'd even have a possible roommate lined up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello Wolf,

Oh, I expect to pass everything you young whipper snappers pass, but I'm over 35 and have to get an ECG as well. Even assuming I pass it, unless I come into some mega money in the next few months, I won't be able to afford PACE until the April class. Thank for the offer, though.

Have you been checking out the MesaLounge board? I saw a room there in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath house for only $140.00! Here in the Bay area, we're talking $500 minimum, and that's if you're really lucky!

I'm looking following to future postings on PACE.

Happy Landings,

JR

6 months?!? You do realize that unless you're exercising the privileges of an ATP ticket, a first class is valid for up to three years, right?

Isn't a 1st class only 6 months, then which it downgrades to a 2nd class through the 12 month point, to which it then downgrades again to a 3rd class? Unless I'm not keeping up on 14 CFR 67?

Yep. Which is why I actually didn't get the new medical cert until 35 calendar months later. I would've waited the extra month, but the timing worked out better this way. Now, hopefully in about a year, I''ll have to do the 6 month thing.

No, it's a 1st Class for the duration but it's not valid for ATP privileges beyond 6 months or commercial privileges beyond 12 months.

Upgrades at Mesa are fast, but not THAT fast. Unless I'm missing something, you shouldn't need a 1st class every 6 mos until you upgrade to CA. I'll admit, I'm not up on Part 121 regs so I may be mistaken, but an SIC only requires comm/inst/me, the privileges of which only requires a 2nd class medical to exercise.

I believe that many employers require you to hold a First Class. Even for FO/s. Don't know about Mesa.

Think of what's typed at the top of your medical certificate as the highest level of priviledge that you can operate an aircraft with.

It's still a first class, but you only retain first class privileges for 6 months. After that, you can only exercise second class priviledges for another 6 months, and then it reverts to third class priviledges for two more years.

All airlines that I can think of require all pilots to have a first class medical, the captain needs a fresh medical every 6 months and most airlines allow domestic first officers to revert to second class medical priviledges (undergoing a physical every 12 months).

MAG (Mesa / Air Middy) technically requires a first class for everyone, but if you're an FO the 2nd class will do just fine. One of our check airmen gave me some good advice a couple of years back: find an AME you like and stick with him/her. That way if any snag happens along during one of your medicals, you have a documented track record with someone, which will improve the chances of clearing up said snag.
