An acquaintance posted something about seeing a crash near the mall/Target in Pequannock, NJ.

Anyone heard anything? As far as I know there were no fatalities.

Sounds like a very good emergency landing to me... Not a crash. Ugh. I hate that term, simply because a plane had to land somewhere non-conventional.

Glad to hear both made it out okay!

glad their ok. Looks like he did one heck of a job landing that plane. On a side note has anyone read the comments on the story link posted?

Yes...a few of my favorite so far:

"TWO MORE IDIOTS. THESE SMALL PLANES SHOULD JUST BE OUTLAWED!!!!!!!!"

"Single engine planes are pointless and shrimply meant for the rich to fly around in and laff at us. Since I do not fly a single engine plane, I say ban them."

It's Velo!

Just checked my logbook...I got my complex endorsement in that accident plane, a few years back. I always find that an odd thing to see a plane you've flown in the news. Even stranger, this is the second in recent years from this school that has had a C172 with engine failure. That really makes me wonder. Here's the other, which, unfortunately, didn't end as well: http://ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_id=20050526X00678&key=1

My gut here is what the maintenance realities are with these guys.

Anyway, the forced landing looks like it was exectured as well as could be expected. That's definitely the best landing spot in that area. They were likely at 2,500' or less, since that mall is literally the edge of the NY Class B, which begins at 3,000.
