NFL Sunday Night Football Pilot Needed 7/20/2006
Fly camera airplane for NBC Sports coverage of Sunday Night Football. We own 2 Helio Courier STOL aircraft that have covered major sporting events for 7 years. The perfect pilot will be willing to travel for the NFL season. Must have 1000 Hours and CFII. Please no hard core sports fans - it gets in the way of the job. Weight is an issue, so FAA standard weight is important. That's 180 lbs. You'll fly about 400-500 hours in 20 weeks, mostly cross country. Salary plus all expenses. It's hard work, but interesting and fun. Salary Range: $2,000 - $3,000 per month.

See, if they said gender or race or sexual preference were issues, they could be sued for unlawful discrimination. Discrimination on the basis of weight, however, is still entirely legal.

Too bad, that sounds like a lot of fun.

Back when I worked for everyone's favorite F.B.O.(Signature) One of those guys came in. What a unique little airplane they're flying around. Sits really high on the ramp, and has leading edge lift devices.

So I guess if I bring my big foam hand to the interview that wouldn't work out so well with my 200# self.

what do you think the actual plane does during games?

Flies around in a tight orbit above the field with a gyro stabilized camera pod mounted on the wing.

Actually sounds like a pretty cool gig. Decent pay, and you get 400-500 hours.

Not a huge fan of the NFL, so I wouldn't have to worry about being distracted.

I have worked with (not for) Bob Mikkelson quite a bit in the past. Winged Vision provided the camera and operator for our blimp operation. The job he posted is very legitimate. It is a lot of single-engine time, but also a great deal of cross-country time. The airplanes are very well maintained and have the UPS GPS/Terrain/weather system, the name of which escapes me. I believe he was the launch customer for the weather portion of that package, but I digress. A lot of instrument time is to be had.

With all the travel, this is a great opportunity to see the country, build a little flight time, and be involved in network television production. You will stay in some pretty excellent hotels...and some pretty crappy ones. You will have some additional duties involving delivering camera equipment to the sporting venue. It is as advertised, but Bob will probably make a point that he is not interested in someone using this as a time-building job. The single engine time is not that valuable anyway. If you are interested in one of the fringe jobs of aviation respond. This is a serious position requiring professionalism and reliability; the product of your flying is viewed on national broadcasts each week.

PM me if you have any questions.
