well, congratulations on the commercial ticket! as far as employment goes, its a tough start without a cfi, but doable. I went and started flying banners when i was fresh and it has been a good ride, ive even gone from charter flying back to it as the pay is decent for my lifestyle. that said, if i was to do it again, especially if you are looking to do 135 in the future, i would work on getting my cfi when possible. Im sure that you can find something up in the bay area there, there is work to be done and plenty of airports close (i would check out hayward, there seems to be a lot of activity there) but getting your cfi will help you get the needed 100 hours of night and 75 of instrument that you will need for the 135 ifr mins down the road. you might also look into some skydiving outfits, you will usually not need to travel and will probably get more experience with bigger equipment sooner.
good luck!
