NEWARK — A new, all business-class airline with service between Newark and Paris is making its debut tonight.

La Compagnie flies a single route, between Newark Liberty International Airport and Paris Charles DeGaulle International, starting twice weekly, with plans to increase to six weekly flights by September.

La Compagnie's inaugural flight is due to arrive at Newark today at about 8:30 p.m., with its first flight from New Jersey to France scheduled for Tuesday at 9:45 p.m.

There is no coach or first-class seating. Rather, all the seats are business class, with round trip fares ranging from $1,915 to $7,157, depending on the desired flexibility. The plane features 70 lie-flat seats for transcontinental shut-eye.

La Compagnie is offering a special inaugural fare during July and August, starting at $1,378 per person, or $2,014 for two people traveling together.

La Compagnie leases its sole aircraft, a Boeing 757-200, from Icelandair, though the plane is painted in the new carrier's own light and dark blue color scheme, spelling out its name in bold letters across the plane's narrow fuselage.

The airline was founded in October 2013 by L'Avion founder Frantz Yvelin and former Swissair and JetAirways COO Peter Luethi.

Newark Liberty accommodates both ends of the limited-service airline spectrum. On the low-cost end, last month a revived PeopleExpress began service from Newark to Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, with flights priced at $56 each way.

Wasn't there a German one not long ago?

The smoking airline didn't last long either.

But for the price, I'd fly it.....anywhere but Paris!

The guy who's behind this is the same one who started L'Avion, which was then sold to BA/AF group to become OpenSkies. Sooo he does have some successes

Um... what's the callsign anyone? Didn't even notice anyone different... only one flight though I guess.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it "DREAMJET"

Winning

Also for the record British Airways has been operating all business class A320s from New York - London City for well over a year now, if not two.

As was already said, EOS and Maxjet both failed doing the same thing(though Maxjet later tried it's luck in Dubai), and at the same time, L'Avion was doing 757 flights from Newark to Paris-Orly. If British Airways didn't buy L'Avion and make it "OpenSkies", I think they would have gone under just as fast. With the first class products and loyalty rewards of the major airlines flying those city pairs, I doubt there's that much demand for people who demand a better experience but at less than the cost of a private jet trip across the pond. Nothing new though, in the 80s, airlines like MGM Grand and McClain Airways tried 727 and DC-8 all first class service with a ton of perks on domestic trans-cons and even shorter flights like ORD-LAX. McClain was history pretty quickly, and MGM switched from all first class to coach charters and more or less became Champion Airlines in MSP. Legend Airlines who flew DC-9s with 56s seats out of Dallas Love Field(effectively bypassing the Wright Amendment) was the only one that looked like it could have survived...you know...if AMR didn't put special 56-seat Fokker 100s on the same routes at the same times with lower/matched fares and offer 4 times the FF miles to it's pax...but hey, the court said that wasn't anti-competitive so who are we to question it? :)

Again been flying for quite a while, and despite the daily stop in Shannon westbound... I assume doing decently enough?
Yeah, the flights are flown by A318s and they attract some of the Concorde crowd(they use the old Concorde flight numbers too) who wants the privacy and prestige the flight offers and the convenience of landing at London City and pre-clearing customs. When the plane stops in Shannon, everyone gets off and clears customs with dedicated agents in a lounge with wifi and refreshments before headed across the pond. With this, it's hard to imagine that the travel time saved from flying out of London-City and not clearing customs in JFK makes the trip faster than one of the bajillion non-stops from LHR-JFK. But, as they say in France, "Stunin' is a habit, put em in the ayeer. Have you ever seen a Chevy with the butterfly do's?".
