US Airways and America West Airlines will introduce new aircraft livery for the combined company on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Employees are invited to join Chairman, President and CEO Doug Parker, and President and CEO Bruce Lakefield as the first plane with the new look, an Airbus A320, makes its inaugural tour.

Events are scheduled in Philadelphia at 7 a.m., Pittsburgh at 9:30 a.m., Charlotte at 12:30 p.m., Las Vegas at 3:45 p.m., and Phoenix at 6:30 p.m. All times are local.

I think there are still a combination of all three paint schemes on the aircraft my company flies and truth be told, I don't even look at the paint.

Some kid asked me about six months ago how I liked flying the 'new livery'.

Shoot, looks the same up front!

I can't be sure and of course in no way questioning you...but I haven't seen any of the old 80's early 90's "wiget" liveries anymore. So not sure there still around anymore (thank god).
Now all I ever see is the current scheme and the interim Ron Allen livery and even that is very few and far between.

I remember last year there was a -90 in the old widget scheme sitting out at DIA with one engine missing. That was the first time I was ever around the -90 and holy cow that engine is huge compared to the -80. Looked like they just took one off of a 737-300 and stuck it on there.

Yeah, we're all sitting around here waiting to see where they are going to stick the cactus on the planes. Maybe where the flag is? That or paint the normal US livery in teal blue and orange? Actaully the only conversation I have even heard about it is that we may see some more themed planes out on the east coast. Right now everybody is just crossing their fingers that the merger works out ok and we can get out of chap 11. There are SO many things that we were told about during training the past couple of weeks that have the tag line at the end "of course this won't happen until we exit chap 11". Grrr.

Like the retro look on the few Deltas and AA's

Like the older Delta tail logo too. People instantly recognize it. The new tail looks like Air France or anyone but Delta.

So are they doing all the planes in the HP and US fleets like this? What about all the regional carriers?

I take it this is the end of America west now right? Will the whole conglomeration be known as US?

I still dont understand why one airline has three hubs so close together the US does.

That's NOT the actual livery, although it could be close to what comes out. I'm not sure if/when the express carriers will get the new scheme... Rumor has it that the smile is coming back so I would think PSA would be getting it. For right now both carriers will operate on seperate certificates. Both operators will run with the Airways name but until the two certificates are merged (when ever that is) the AWA planes will say "operated by America West" on them.

There is a really funny article in an aviation magazine which crossed my desk a few days ago.

I'll try to find a link to it, but it's titled "Bringing New Meaning to Generic Travel" and it starts:

Taking the low cost paradigm to a new level, "The Airline" announced itself to the world with a few black and white newspaper ads that said: "We're The Airline. This is the airplane. Get on. We're leaving." The listed prices were new industry lows.

It's pretty funny, and I gotta see if I can find a link to it.

I'm all for going back to the bare metal look. I've seen the 737 with the usairways.com logo several times at MCO.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the "no brainer" livery myself. I'll be interested to see the new one, though.

Yes, post-merger the combined company will be known as US Airways, but it will be based in PHX and most of the senior management team will be from HP.
