Hello i'm a 30 year old male that LOVES TO FLY,and i am a student pilot with 30 hours, and i have been flying here at Star Bright Aviation from august to the present time,so out here in southeast Kansas we have good flying weather most of the time,BUT there is that risk of some really :rawk:HARDCORE THUNDERSTORMS.I flew up towards Kansas City last Thursday and it was my first time calling Center and requesting flight following, and it was a good thing we did because it was hazy and we had poor visiability,so it was difficult to scan for traffic and monitor all of my instruments and navigate using the Garmin 530 we have in the Pa-28-140 Cherokee Warrior, with that added load of trying to repeat what Center just said, but luckfully i got the squawk code right, but i didnt do so well with the communications but hey im still only a student right !!:drool:did you see the Bellanca:drool::drool::drool::drool::hiya:me,me,me,me,i WANNA FLY IT !!!!!!!!!

yeah im flying alot of cool planes, and learning alot,QUICKLY,i will keep you up to date, thanks for the reply to my thread.

I completed my first solo cross country sunday!:DK88 direct KJLN (1hr stop),direct KBVO,then direct K88.I got flight following, went into class D (KJLN),and filed two different flight plans,BUT i couldnt contact RADIO to open my flight plans,my first attempt was for wichita radio on 122.35 no answer,i continued on my flight and after landing i called 1800wxbrief and told them what happened, they seemed just as puzzled as me!So i shrugged it off,and filed for the second half of my trip and got up into the air and again i couldnt contact Columbia Radio this time!after i landed and called wxbrief again i found my mistake for the second half i copied the wrong freq!Other than those two mistakes it was a VERY smooth and professional flight,my time in class DELTA at Joplin was my most professional to date,(i sounded pro,and i flew pro!):panic::nana2::D

Well done! A potential solution to your problem with contacting Wichita Radio would be to attempt to contact them at Flight Watch on 122.0. This is also known at the Enroute Flight Advisory Service (EFAS). Opening the flight plan via Radio would be my first choice as well but if it didn't work, 122.0 would be Plan B.

is 122.0 good for any part of the country?would i need to ask for a specific region such as kansas city or do i just tell flight watch were im at?

Flightwatch on 122.0 is nationwide. You can just tell Flightwatch your location. When I contact Flightwatch my initial transmission sounds like this: "Flightwatch, Flightwatch, N1234 is 20miles west of ABC VOR at 5000feet, listening and transmitting on 122.0."
Note: I say Flightwatch twice b/c the person on the other end of the radio may be busy on another frequency. This gives the specialist an extra moment to realize someone is talking to him/her.

More information is available in the Aeronautical Information Manual Chapter 4 Section 1.

You would call and say "Any Flight Service Station do you read, Warrior XXXXAF transmitting on 122.0" Hopefully you get someone and then you just make a regular request to open your flight plan.

the word around the grape vine is that wichita radio is always busy so they just dont answer their radio,IF YOU WORK FOR OR KNOW SOMEONE THAT CAN ALLABORATE ON THIS PLEASE FEAL FREE TO DO SO,(WICHITA RADIO)i may just give them a little ring on the telephone to see if any one is home or if they get paid to sleep at the wheel!they could have at least come back with"were busy leave us alone"!!!that would be acceptable to me.

oh yeah i passed the private pilot knowledge test yesterday!!!:panic::nana2::rawk::buck::D:DFOR THE SECOND TIME!!!!!!!!

last saturday i completed my night training,100 NM XC and ten takeoffs and landings!!!!!the winds were rippin from the southwest like a spring day,BUT it was a no factor!im used to it, i started my training in kansas so im used to crabbing into the wind 45 degrees or more to fly an appropriate downwind,i think it was around 25-30 KTS winds aloft(well above the trees!!)so there was alot of compensating for the winds FUN STUFF!!!!:Doh yeah i made a SWEET short field landing at neodesha(2K7) i was down and stoppped at 1500 ft, half of the field!!and i took off in the same amount! my instructor said the winds helped me out,(true) but not to the extent he was thinking of,the wind at the surface was at 10 maybe 13,thats not much help, maybe if it was 25 to 30 at the surface, then that would be helpful in getting up or down in a tight spot!

I have completed my solo cross country training requirements for the private pilot .:nana2::D:bandit::rawk:Now i just need to brush up on my maneuvers and study a hole bunch for the oral exam!!!I am almost a private pilot!!!!!!:DI now have ALL of the flight experience requirements logged and out of the way!!!!!!!!STUDY,STUDY,STUDY:buck::buck::buck:

im not looking forward to doing any more checkrides,i had my checkride cancelled, and i dont want to do it...but i guess i have too... it has made flying NOT FUN:(only the american GOVERNMENT can take something that is pure and simple and make it complex and hinder the enjoyment for all...:whatever:what an INTRUSION!!!!
