New RUssian PLane....

That looks oddly familiar...????

Does anyone know about the current status of the Beriev Be-200? It's a newer Russian jet seaplane, for passengers and firefighting.

Last I read, they made 7 or so, and 5 or 6 where occasionally rented by Turkey as firefighters. Are they a no-go? What are your opinions on operability and dependability? Love seaplanes, and just like the idea of a 70 passenger seaplane converted to private jet.

Thanks for any info, sorry for the hijack.

And sorry for the even more threadjack, but what's your connection with Antilles inventor?

None. Just have loved the Goose since I was a kid, even that 80's, horrifically great, one season wonder, 'Tales of the Gold Monkey'. Always planned on having new ones built when I got 'invention money', and those nice folks at Antilles did all the hard work for me.:)

Too bad about the timing and bad blood. Do you have any connection? Be that a McKinnon in your signature?

I spent a few summers in N327, the plane from Tales of the Golden Monkey. The owner sold it in place of N70AL, a MkKinnon, which I have since spent many more summers in. Its a great plane.

It's an awesome looking plane, but that has to be a very narrow market to cater to. I'd love to see a few here, and honestly feel they would work well in certain area's, but it'll never happen.

The T-50 is probably like everything else Russian. 85% or so as good as what it copied at way less than 85% of the price.

Why are the jet engines always so far apart on Russian fighters? If you look at a F-15 vs a SU-33 and the f-22 vs the T-50 the gap is huge on the Russian plane. Is it simply a design preference or is a necessity?

I believe their design philosophy is to use the distance to try to keep an engine casualty from taking out the other engine.

First post! I agree, also it should help with their claimed 3D thrust vectoring, pitch, roll and yaw. Somewhere (wikipedia maybe?) it was said the design was to be slightly more maneuverable and slightly less stealth vs the Raptor.
