New restoration

This was posted on the Waco Club forum but I thought I re-post here. This airplane is a friend of mine in Junction City, KS. It was originally purchased by the Civil Aeronautics Authority new, and they operated the airplane originally. The CAA had a distinctive paint scheme of Black and Orange, with a unique livery here:

It flew for the first time post-restoration yesterday. He will fly for a couple more hours without the wheelpants (make sure the brakes work well, etc) and then it will be even prettier. Here's the video:

My dream job is restoring and returning old airplanes to flight ready status.

Amazing job.

Amazing job.

My first official "job" - where I was actually on a payroll - was when I was 15 and it was at a place that restored (Stearmans). I don't let my Waco friends know that...but it was a great time. Basically cleaned lots of parts, cleaned flying wires, stripped paint, and did gofer work. I enjoyed it more than I do my current job actually.

I am stationed at Fort Riley, KS and live in JC. Marvin at Raven Aero, there on Freeman, has an awesome shop and does great work. Once I return I will take a few pics of the Stinson and the 1929 Inland Sport in the hangar I fly out of. It’s good to have that type of resource to learn from.
The Pilot of that Waco is a local businessman, and local EAA head. Again good people to work with.
And I thought I had missed the first flight. Thanks for the post.

They do beautiful work. I'll let you know when I read down the road to Junction City and we can meet up and discuss old airplanes!

I can only imagine all the blood, sweat and tears that went into that Waco. What a stunning aircraft!

Sounds good. I will be in JC for about 2 weeks in early Aug. After that early 2011. Looking forward to it.

This is awesome Waco. It sure is great to be able to see stuff that was made that long ago able to fly again. I love that paint scheme it has too.

New reatoration = oxymoron. Nice airplane. I love the sound of the prop on a radial like that. The prop does'nt move the air, it beats it into submission.
