new pilot with med question

Oh no Doc, I understood. My HIMS evaluation will be done by the HIMS doctors in Orlando....the psychiatric & psychological evaluations. Per the FAA, I have to get a second one done. What I'm inquiring about is your HIMS sponsorship services. The AME in Miami, whose closes to me, would be my HIMS sponsor if I so choose for them to be. Correct? It's my understanding that I can choose any AME in the country who is HIMS certified. Again the problem is not being able to get in touch with anyone at the office. I've left messages; emails and so has my aftercare counselor to no avail. That's why I've visited your website and have posted questions. I started this process just about 3yrs ago.

Just to be clear the AME/HIMS sponsor is the one that issues the medical certificate after being cleared by OKC or Washington DC.....right?

Here are the issues:
1) the letter from the FAA is going to designate the Miami HIMS AME because that is who is handling your case. You would have to get that AME to agree to a transfer of care and get the FAA to sign of on it. It makews no sense for them to allow you to live in FLorida close to the AME who handled your case and then go all of the way across the country to another HIMS AME.
2) When I monitor a pilot in the HIMS porgram, I see them every 2 months after they get back in the air, do their flight physical every 6 months (or as required bvy the SI letter), do twice a month random urine screens for drugs and alcohol. This is for a minimum of 3 years.
3) I never accept a HIMS pilot unless I talk with them face-to-face, review their entire file and decide if I am the best option for them.

Yes, the HIMS AME does issue the certificate after the FAA issues the SI letter. You normally see the psychiatrist once a year and an annual repoort from the psychiatrist and the HIMS AME is filed with the FAA.

Ok....now I have a better understanding of how the actual process works. I'm fine with that. I would guess that the process in Miami probably mirrors yours or is fairly similiar to it.

It's info such as this that I've have been trying to get for the past few months so that I can get an idea of a time frame, costs and other resources that are going to be needed to see this process through. Other variables to consider......employment (outside of aviation) and/or grad school.

Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated.
