New Great Lakes crew bases

We just got a memo that Lakes is going to open up new crew bases. Denver is going to be chopped up into a Denver base and a Denver reserve base. ABQ, STL and MKE are going to be real bases and not TDY bases and the real kicker is the new Farmington New Mexico base. Farmington will be the largest base outside of Denver now. The pilots are not happy.

On the bright side, CoL in FMN is MUCH cheaper than DEN.

Thats true but most of us are living in Denver or are "set up" in Denver. These new bases open in April where we have no time to get established in the new base. No crash pads to speak of. Commuting is going to be a joy.

Sounds like they are doing the see jay see. They no longer will have to pay for a hotel.

I think over here its going to eventually go to hub basing completely. It might be more expensive, but you can better utilize your crews. What good is some guy sitting out in PQI on reserve for 1 day?

I'm thinking BOS, LGA, IAD, IAH, EWR within three years.

Hey taildragger, is there any word on service out of DFW? I saw the route map on the company website, and it shows DFW as a future EAS route.

Yes.

PHX to SOW PGA and PRC
Kingman should be up sooner or later

Disregard. PHX-PRC will be no longer... will be PRC-ONT

Sounds like it might just be PHX-PGA and maybe SOW. Things are getting mixed up a bit next month as flight schedules are changing pretty drastically out west.

Also going to serve Kingman to ONT then later on to Vegas is the plan.

Dallas is in the works still, no start date so it could be months +++ before that happens, lots of flying still in Arkansas to serve to that destination. Though that might be kicked off to STL to start.

Telluride airport is closing its doors this summer for runway improvements, this is freeing up crews and aircraft to start more flying. Rumor is that Telluride is working to get Lynx to bring the Q in, if that happens there is a good chance the days are numbered for the 1900 going in there.

Agreed. However CRW and CHO would be hard to break down since they run airways and united.

Yeah that's a good point. I think CHO could be served out of LGA(Airways) and IAD(United) but CRW is the problem. Not so much with the United flying but the Airways is back and forth to DCA and there's no other Saab flying out of there. Unless the DCA flying is dropped, I'd say CRW might stick around as a base.

would like to see PHX-CDC like mesa did awhile ago

you guys hiring i have a fresh unused 1900 type?

Whats to stop them from flying in on a UA flight then flying USair for a couple of days then flying out UA?

Say someting like :

.......IAD-CRW (overnight)

CRW-DCA-CRW-DCA-CRW (overnight)

CRW-IAD......

Good point, this would work by using CA America Saabs.

They would have a hissy fit about us doing United and US Airways at the same time. They would have to give all of us at Dulles, Us airways benefits.

I dont know what happened but at the beginning of the year, Airways and United got real serious about when we are positive spaced on their flights. We used to be able to switch back and forth. Say I was going to head up to Albany to cover US Airways flying, they would deadhead me out on a United flight from IAD to ALB and then pick up the airways stuff. But we cant do that anymore, we have to go to IAD and have a van driver take us to DCA, and then catch an Airways flight to ALB. Its pretty frustrating when you are walking in Dulles past the Albany gate, and you have to catch a ride up to DCA instead.

We have not heard anything yet with the DFW flying. All I know is that we're short on planes and people to staff new flying.

On a different note, rumor has it that some of the returning captains (furloughed from other airlines) are quitting as a result of this outstation basing.

We've got benefits on both, since we're cross-utilized sometimes. But they also will not deadhead us on one partner to cover flying for the other. Sucks at times, but I suppose it makes sense.
