New glasses...interviews in the future

Hi all,

This is more of a mind-numbing question, I hope, but I want to make sure I covered my bases.

My prescription changed, and I'll need new lenses / glasses frames. In choosing a frame style, is there a preference on what I should be looking for? I'll most likely be interviewing in these frames later this / next year. I've sported the buddy holly type thick black frames for almost 15 years now (yeah, before they were cool!) but I'm not sure if that's the image the airlines / fractionals / cargo ops want in the cockpit? Is this a totally ridiculous concern of mine? Should I get more conservative with my glasses this time around, or just get whatever?

Look as professional as possible.

Some designs of frames don't go well with the "pilot" look. Just go conservative and you will be fine.

Today's styles seem to focus on black frames, but nothing super thick. So long as you don't look too much like a total hipster, you will probably be fine. In other words, something square/circular (depending on your face shape) is fine, and stay away from the Wayfarer frames. Those are cool for sunglasses.

I dunno, I see a lot of hipster looking pilots at the regionals these days. I worked with a captain who looked identical to Rivers Cuomo from Weezer.

Don't go in with a set of these......

and you'll be fine.

Thanks all! I think I'll just get a conservative pair for the hypothetical interviews when they happen. Two pairs....hadn't thought of that!

I use the brand 'silhouette' - LINK - they are low profile, titanium frames. Lots of eye docs have them available. Kind of pricy, but you can have the 'glasses' part cut in any shape you would like and the frames are basically wires. I like the look a lot. For my back up pairs... Zenni Optical all the way... $8 glasses from China. I think that the last time I ordered backup frames I got two, plus a cheapy style sunglasses for $35.
