New Delta gate procedure

Doug have you read about the new procedure when you guys come into the gate in ATL ( I guess will be all stations) to now have the APU running for immediate engine shutdown? I am not sure how it affects you guys pay or anything but it sure will help us bigtime in either getting to the bins to unload or not having to sit and wait for the slow gate crew to hook power up. I know the hotter it gets the slower the ramp guys react. We have been asking for the to happen for many years. Many bags have missed because of this not happening. I know it has to cost much less to run that APU than the engines especially on a wide body. Of course now that the company is trying to save money that want to use an old idea that would have worked many years ago. Wondering what your thougts are?

I haven't seen anything about that.

Pretty typical though, a new memo comes out in one department regarding actions required by another department, but the other department doesn't recieve the memo for 6-8 months!

Here's a bit of unchecked trivia, one of my captains told me that Boeing intended for the APUs to be run continuously because the newer generation aircraft would have to only rely on two generators instead of 3 like the 727, and 4 as in the 707 and 747.

I just saw this memo the other day so I am sure it will get to you guys in about 6 months. Last night at work I went to start the APU on the -88 and said I will sit in Doug Taylors seat on the right and then I though for a moment and said no I like the Captains seat better. Better view from left side...kidding...

More space on the right though. No tiller!

Plus, if a massive electrical malfunction occurs, a little less chance of getting arc'ed by the circuit breaker panel!

No I dont fly for Delta but I work there. My job there is move aircraft. I just happend to know where all the switches and other bells and whistles are.. I guess the 4th stripe means you get the tiller and less room and more money.. Last night there was a right in the book about the APU not coming online when started and mtc wrote back they checked everything and all wiring and found nothing. Sounds like a unable to duplicate on ground write up. When I started the APU I got the RPMs to come up to norm but the EGT gauge would only register 55%. One click of the APU reset button and boom we have APU power. I wonder if the pilots forgot about that little switch right above the generators. Leave it up to ACS personnel to make things work right......haha

Doug I guess that explains also why most -88 Capts have no hair now. Plenty of electrical currents to help burn it out...

He said he was sitting on the pilot's seat so I guessed he was a pilot. He also made it look like it he didn't work at the ramp so what else could he be? I know there are other jobs but in this case I don't know what his job is.

I am currently putting in for CEO so when Grinstein leaves I will already have my paperwork in. But for now I work in ACS but for now I dont handle bags anymore just move airplanes.

Delta has a thing each day that is called Job bid opening. It post all jobs that are currently open and is update each day. Brian I was joking the CEO is not open yet.

Delta only hires from within. Oops thats the old Delta pre-Leo. I would say you need to work the ramp for a while and the work the gates ( to get use to be degraded and yelled at) and the ticket counter and then kiss the right butt to move up

I wouldn't waste much effort trying to confirm that one Doug. The funny thing is that losing a generator, even on the early 737s was less of an event than on one of the older 3 or 4 engine airplanes, because the generators were so puny on them that losing one was a big deal. On the twins one generator can carry the load, plus automatic load shedding if it doesn't.

So far so good. Not missing the bus at all. Some of the kids are starting to ask how the job hunt is going. So they aren't too gung ho on the "retirement" yet.

(Maybe some will start thinking about actually moving out?)
