New ADHD Information??

"Children with the disorder have trouble paying attention, are restless and hyperactive, and are sometimes disruptive in school."
Maybe they should try assigning more challenging schoolworks or even put them in another class that is harder/moves faster. Would have done wonders for me back then. I just got really, really bored. It's not good to have a fast learning kid with a lot of energy to move at the pace of the idiot in the class...

I only took medication for 2 years (Age 8-10) and I'm totally fine. I took ritalin though. I don't think it was necessary for me to be on medication.

I heard doctors are very easy about diagnosing people with ADHD.

When you get perks from the drug companies it's easy to diagnose something more.

I think a lot of modern docs are on the take. Just my opinion, but it seems fishy.

Funny - just had a patient accuse me and their doctor of being on the take. They're convinced the doctor is getting a kickback when they prescribe my product.

Sigh.

I think ADHD is just a made-up syndrome for kids being kids. Boredom is the biggest contributor in my opinion. Medicating your kid is the easiest way out. I'm pretty sure if my parents would have known it would have created a professional hurdle for me they wouldn't have put me on it, even if it was only for 2 years...

The few friends that were on it say they can concentrate on school work like none other study for hours on end.

Very appealing.

Apparently the ADHD medicine (forgot what kind) goes for $20-25 a pill around finals time.

I can study for hours on end and I'm 'cured' of ADHD and don't take medicine. Maybe it's a side-effect of having had it? haha

Last week I read an entire FAA manual off the websites library, I was reading non-stop for 6-10 hours for 3 days... Is that normal or just passionate?

They claimed I had ADD in 3rd grade. Did the whole medication thing, and then went off of it in 6th grade. Funny I made the honor role the following year in 7th grade without any medication.

It is a joke. Everyone is going to have a different personality, demeanor, tendencies, etc. Where there's money to be made, it's pretty easy to say "oh yeah, you've got a disorder, take this".

It happens.

I was tested for ADHD once, but I couldn't pay attention long enough to finish the test.

>rimshot<

Heeeeeeyooooooooh!

:yup:

ADD is a great thing to have if you are like me! While it does limit attention to subjects that bore you, it allows you to concentrate and remember things you do enjoy at such a high level. My CFI tells me I remember things so much better than his other students, and thats because my ADD makes me able to "super-concentrate" on flying.

As far as drugs go, they are useless unless they help you stay calm during class. And in my experience, they do not help you concentrate by enhancing the mind, just by calming you down and keeping you from getting hyper or being a disturbance to class. I was a jittery one during elementary school :laff:. Hell, Einstein had ADD; no wonder he could concentrate so much on his sciences!

There is no such thing as ADD/ADHD. There is such a thing as an active mind, boredome, and bad moral charactor. I notice now, that the kids in my class that had ADD/ADHD, their parents both worked, and were "latch key" kids. Those that had a mother or father that stayed home, didn't have any problems. Hmmmm. Mabey some kids just needed more guidence from mom and pop, not some freakin drug. Wonder what would have happened to an over active kid with ADHD if you'd have fed them some Marinol?

I was diagnosed with ADD when I was younger and my mother told the doctor he was nuts. Said that she would never feed a growing child some drug that messes with their brain. Back in the day when you didn't want to pay attention in class you were just lazy now there has to be some diagnosis to go along with it.

I really didn't care for history, biology, etc... However give me something to read about flying or sports and I focused 100%.

Point proven, ADD allows you to super-concentrate on topics that interest you. Too bad more people dont have it.
