Never Again 9-11...6 years ago

As my grandparents will never forget December 7th 1941, and my parents will never forget November 22nd, 1963, I will never forget September 11th, 2001.

Heres to everyone who has given his or her life in the name of the USA; on 9/11/01 or any other date.

I have a rather detailed write up about my thoughts that day, if anyone wants me to post them?
 
I had the unfortunate opportunity to be sitting in a classroom directly across the Hudson river from the WTC on 9/11. Watching it unfold infront of your eyes is something I cannot describe. The pictures and video in the news just could not portray what it was like to be there. It is something I would not wish on my worst enemy.
 
The worst part is that I knew one of the pilots that was killed and that my profession morphed into a weird mix of politics, paranoia and "Woo hoo! Let's use the bankruptcy courts to rape some employee groups"

The best part, for me, at least I got to share very unique week with a bunch of great Delta pilots that were stuck in Boston along with me, met a lot of good people and softened the emotional blow with McCormick and Schmick's happy hour menu.

I believe that the most importnt issue at hand is this, we shoul NEVER FORGET our fellow Americans that lost their lives on that day. We should also NEVER forget who (Islamic Fascists) was responsible for this day and the killings of thousands of Americans. Families torn apart, daughters and sons who do not not have parents to see them grow up, or sisters and brothers that have lost their siblings due to this trash that roams the earth. It is a hate that I will carry with me to my grave and I personally would like to see them all bombed and turned into glass. Democrats and liberals in this country need to wake up and remember that this day did indeed happen, and they are doing our country a great disservice by trying to handcuff our military from doing their job!

The one thing that makes me uncomfortable about 9/11 remembrance posts is that some of them tend to turn political, and using the anniversary of 9/11 to incite anger, increase TV ratings (MSNBC is replaying the Today Show from six years ago in real time so we can all see everyone get killed again), or to lamely try to bash "democrats and liberals" is incredibly distasteful, not to mention disrespectful. Not only to those who died and to those who lost people, but to those of us who WON'T forget and don't need a bat to the head to be told to remember the things you think we should remember, and in what way.

Nice political jab - I don't think anyone can blame Democrats, liberals, or the majority of this country for that matter who question our leadership when we've lost more military personnel than we did civilians on 9/11 and still haven't captured the person responsible.

I don't just remember the 9/11 victims and heroes, I also remember those soldiers who wanted nothing more than to bring to justice the people responsible for this horrible act, and were instead sent to Iraq. The death toll from 9/11 is much larger than the 3000 people that died that day.
 
Please don't turn this into a messy political hodgepodge. It does nothing but demean the memory of the poor souls that lost their lives 6 years ago today, and agreeing with Murdough, many more that have since given their lives to protect our great country.

If this thread turns into nasty political poo-slinging I'm gonna be seriously dissapointed.

Never Again? Of course something's going to happen again. Why? On a recent layover, I decided to have a little walk around the perimeter of the airport. While the TSA was busy stealing shampoo and frisking old ladies, there was an access gate on the backside of the airport standing wide open with NO ONE watching it.

I could have driven a tank on to the field and started taking pot shots at the terminal.

Today there's an article in a Safety email I get outlining the TSA's opposition to secondary security systems in airplanes. Why does the TSA oppose these secondary door systems? Because of the cost to the airlines to retrofit the airplanes.

Face it, folks. The TSA is a pork barrel boondoggle whose ONLY purpose is to make Americans think the government is doing something (ANYTHING) to enhance aviation security (If I'm standing in line for two hours to get onto the concourse, I MUST be safe!). Meanwhile, the illegal aliens who drive the catering trucks full of who knows what drive right up to the plane and unload stuff right into the galleys.

completely un f***ing necessary. Today should be about remembering those who died, not about politics. To all of you who have used the deaths of thousands of people to push a political agenda, shame on you!

I think you could make the argument that anyone with enough determination will find a way to cause massive destruction, despite whatever security means we have in place. We can focus our attention on airports, and they'll simply find another medium by which to cause destruction. Even with a strong TSA, it wouldn't take much for someone with a stinger missle to sit in the parking lot of my office building and take out an aircraft on approach to TPA, then slip onto the highway and dissapear forever. How do you defend against an ideology characterized by so much hate?
 
Would it be political to say that it really does steam me that the son of a bitch who was responsible for these attacks is still out there six years later producing videos taunting us and planning the next attack?

If so, then delete this.
 
Today, my thoughts go to the families, my brothers in arms and everyone who is still trying to understand why. I will not talk about anything else.
