Need help getting a friend sponsored to take the AFOQT/TBAS

Hello, I have a friend who has also decided to fly for the reserves or guard, however he is having a hell of a time just finding someone to sponsor him to take the AFOQT (and of course subsequently the TBAS). Three questions, one does it have to be a recruiter that sponsors it? 2 if not then what kind of personnel can? 3. Does anyone have any suggestions beyond these (http://www.944fw.afrc.af.mil/units/recruiting/index.asp)? He was able to ascertain that the test was offered 1 time a week at Luke AFB when he talked to people at the airshow last weekend, and the TBAS can be taken at ASU or the other big college in Phoenix, can't remember the name. So if anyone would know who deals with officer accessions or who can just help him out since he doesn't need a recruiter to send packages out (I'm helping him with that) that would be great.

Thanks

Re: Need help getting a friend sponsored to take the AFOQT/T

I just showed up at my local AFROTC det and had no problems a few years ago. I'm at Luke now. Put him in touch with me if he needs more guidance.

The TBAS cannot be taken at ASU, only at Luke AFB

you need a sponsor to take the AFOQT? Thought you just roll in to a recruiters station and ask to sign up to take the AFOQT. Guess being enlisted perhaps it was different for me. I remember for the ASVAB though, I just talked to a recruiter and set up a time to take it, never had any sponsor or anything (at least not any they told me about ;))

Well for a civilian you need to even have a way onto the AFB or into MEPS, I mean i was surprised it was this much of a pain in the ass too, but I think we'll try the show up at the ROTC det. approach.

I took it as a civilian without a sponsor. Called up the base and talked to the test admin, she told me what time, showed up and took it. This was at Grand Forks AFB.

ahh yes, that was a "problem" when I went to enlist. But simply overcame by calling them to tell them what you want to do, schedule the meetings, then you'll get on a list to be allowed onto the base.

FWIW, I was able to take both the AFOQT and TBAS at the local AFROTC detachment, they were very easy to work with. Just contacted them explained my situation and they pretty much hooked me up. Good Luck!

Alright, I just didn't know what to tell him, the guy who did all my stuff was the guy that did officer accessions for OH, MI, and IN but he never found one for out that way. He has the link to this thread, and one of these ways are bound to work, if not I'll update, and I'll get him in touch with Mchasey (thanks for the offer). Thanks much gentlemen.

Hi,

I posted a message in the military section, but need to get as much as advice as I possibl relatively quickly. Do you think it would be a good idea to leave it in the military section or move it to the General Section?

Thanks,
Jason
