Navy OCS

I'm headed to OCS at the beginning of the month and I was wondering if any of you out there had been recently or had any advice? Anything is appreciated, thanks!

Just like Forrest Gump: Scream "yes Drill Sergeant" to your DI They love that. Sing Army Jodys in formation too, that is another bit of gouge. This will all help on your PT scores at the end of the program.

Thanks for all the replies so far! MikeD, what is D.O.R.? I'm still pretty new with all of the military abbreviations.

It means "Drop On Request", e.g. to quit.

The quote is a tip o' the hat to the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman".

I went through AOCS which ended in 92 0r 93 IIRC and replaced with OCS. When we went through you could just quit (DOR) and that was the end of it. about 35% or so did, most in the first few days.

I haven't a clue about OCS since they moved the combined one (aviation and non aviation) from NAS Pensacola to up north. Here are some things that might help
1. Quitting should not be a option in your mind before you go. Those that quit and went home were the ones that werent sure if they could make it or would quit. Self fulfilling prophecy.
2. Try to have a sense of humor about everything when it is uncomfortabl3.
3. Perspective perspective perspective.
Good luck

It had been a while since I was there.

-I don't like the Abbotts uniforms that they sold us on.
-Don't let them talk you into having your uniforms tailored a little small to fit right at graduation, get them a little loose for a couple years later.
-Don't buy all the crap they tell you to, it is a waste, especially uniforms. I have only worn Khakis about 15 times since API, and the Whites/SDBs/Chokers are only for special occasions so seldom worn.
-Get your sleep, don't stay up all night worrying about polishing shoes and brass, it won't last anyway.
-Find your group of friends and take advantage of every second of liberty, there are tons of bars in Newport with plenty of tourist and resident college girls.

Realize, there are going to be some dumb, fat, lazy people making it through, as long as you are not one of those, it will be a breeze.

Thank you all for the advice! I just got my official orders today and I'm headed that way at the end of the week; it's all moving so fast! I definitely have no other outcome in my mind except walking out of Newport with a shiny gold bar and I am looking forward to the experience!
