Work Location: Remote Sensing Lab - Nellis
Responsibilities:
Serve as Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) for RSL Nellis. The ASO is the principle advisor to the Aviation Operations Section(AOS) Manager for the Section's ground and aviation safety programs. Perform as Pilot in Command in at least one type of aircraft operated by National Security
Technologies, LLC (NSTec). Plan and conduct ground and aviation safety training for AOS and AMS personnel. Conduct periodic safety appraisals, e.g., flight crewmember training records; mission planning and execution processes from assignment to completion; facilities to include
hangar, office, and other work areas, etc., and timely reporting of findings to the AOS Manager. Serve on the board of aircraft incident and accident investigations, if requested. Submit occurrence reports as required and maintain a notification system for accidents, incidents, and hazards.
Maintain a current Aviation Safety Library and distribute aviation safety information. Maintain a close liaison with the NSTec Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) Division. Plan the agenda for the AOS's annual safety symposium and coordinate for guest presenters. Accept
individual responsibility and accountability for environment, safety, health, and quality (ESH&Q) processes within personal control, personal safety, and the safety of co-workers. Comply with established ESH&Q regulations and procedures and perform duties in a way that will not cause
personal danger, endanger other individuals, or violate environmental regulations. Promptly correct or report any hazard or potential hazard to supervision. Understand the principles associated with the National Security Technologies, LLC (NSTec) safety concept. Participate in and embrace NSTec safety initiatives. Perform related work as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in aeronautics/aviation or field related to the position, or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years' related professional experience and 2,500 hours as PIC of helicopters or airplanes. Certified by a civil or military safety institution. Hold an FAA Airline
Transport Pilot or Commercial Certificate for Multi-engine Land Airplane or Rotorcraft-Helicopter and Instrument rated. Hold a current FAA Class II Medical Certificate. Possess a thorough understanding of the NSTec Aviation Operations Manual, appropriate DOE Orders, and Federal
Aviation Regulations. Have knowledge of the NSTec and NNSA Work for Others. Must possess an appropriate valid driver's license. An ability to obtain a DOE "Q" clearance. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access
to classified matter.
