National Guard

I would think times are good for a T-38 stud to get stuck with a guard/reserve unit out of UPT. Just gotta have both CC's sign it off. A kid on baseops got a slot through ROTC and got picked up in the reserves, I'm watching to see if it gets approved: C17wannabe.

There is a pilot shortage right now on active duty due to Force Shaping. A lot of dudes punched out these past couple of years... Palace chase is a pipe dream right now. Nevertheless, if interested, check out the AFPC website and look under Force Shaping. There is an excel spreadsheet they use, that breaks down AFSC's by year group and show's over/ undermanning by commissioning year. If your year group is in the positive, then you have a chance. If its negative, then don't even waste your time.

As noted, FS is only for 2005, and I believe it's suspended for the rest of the year, i.e. they met their requirements. I'm not certain of this, but believe it was posted on the website. If so, then traditional Palace Chase is the only other option; which isn't an option until you have 2/3rds of your commitment fulfilled.

Yeah palace chasing looks like slim chances. I was talking to a recent UPT grad who put Guard on his sheet and he told me that it's not considered palace chasing straight out of UPT. I'm not exactly sure what it falls under??

For those of you in the Guard and fly for an airline, how hard is it to schedule work trips around drill days?
