NAS Oceana - Fighting Omars!

This is the time that I get to act like a sailor again for two weeks! Worked as an Aviation Electronics Technician for VFC-12 in Oceana, VA. Had lots of fun and saw many types of aircraft fly in and out of NAS Oceana.

I didn't know the Air Force has 757's. Saw one painted white while I was there.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

Pics look cool. I like that aggressor scheme on the 18. I didn't know they kept them up there.

It's an opinion, so take it or leave it, but the time stamp interferes with the pictures. Seeing that the pictures have DSC#### filenames, I'm guessing they're from a digital camera. The camera imbeds the date in metadata, so the visual timestamp isn't really necessary anymore. On the original file, right click and select properties and it'll say "Date Picture Taken" on the advanced side of the tab. As far as taking the visual stamp off, it'll be in the camera's settings. It's all personal preference, though.

Yeah thanks for the picture date information. I always wondered how to take it off.

The paint scheme on these planes is to replicate the MIG 29, for which I believe is suppose to be the enemy. That is what this squadron is THE AGGRESSOR.

We have a place at the north end of VA Beach, just shy of the Base property and I saw the Aggressor '18s head out over the water with the grey '18s after them every day. Good training idea!

No problem. I'm obsessive and it bothers me so I make sure it's off on every camera I get.

Yeah, I've seen the scheme before, mostly on documentaries about military flight training programs, I just didn't know they had them up in Oceana. I thought they were all out in the Southwest area. Well, I learned something.

When I was there, some of the planes went to Fallon, NV for a detachment and the others went to Key West for another detachment. So yes they are in the SW area.

Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing. Was down there this summer being a tourist watching from outside the fence. The pictures are much better from the inside.

We have aggressors @ NAS Fallon (where NSAWC is located), Oceana, and a permanent detachment in NAS Key West. Cool pics!

Had a great conversation with the commanding officer and the executive officer there. The CO is actually a reservist and a pilot for FedEx but he served his term there and has since left the squadron. The guys are people that will introduce themselves to you just by noticing you on the flightline. Great bunch of people.

One amazing thing that I saw while there was during a preflight, the plane captain jumped and flew right into the intake of the jet. More of a superman effort to check inside the intake for any foreign objects.

Intake diving. Yeah always make sure that you remove your belt!;)
