Narrowed down the choices

Sorry guys, but I'd like a response to a smaller question pool. I have pretty much decided to go to FIT, UND, or ISU.

Haha, I still say OU.

Only you can make the best decision. You seem very into FIT though, so why not go there?

Maybe it's because I'm used to some heat living down here in Texas, but when I visited UND it was crazy cold. -30* and then some wind chill? No thank you. Could I make it work? Probably, but the school wasn't that enticing.

FIT all the way. I received all my training there and I had great instructors. All good choices but my experience was great.

Plus I teach there now so it has to be good right? :sarcasm:

Really hot at FIT, and really cold at UND. Either way, I will end up toughing it out.

It isn't really hot all year, only for a few months during the later summer. Most of the year is very nice, especially our 75 degree winters.

I gotta pay for it all. Now, in all seriousness, is FIT really worth the extra money?

UND=15k/year
FIT=35k/year

I went to weather.com, and the average temps are only 10 degrees lower than where I live now. So it cant be THAT bad.
The wind just made it miserable. The cold sucked, but the wind just took the breath out of me. Granted, I've been living in Texas for the past ten years.

UND seems like it would be fine considering it is so much less than UND. The only thing that scares me off is the contract students.

Go to where ever you feel works best for you. Whether it is burning up in Florida, or freezing in North Dakota.

The one advantage FL has over ND in my opinion is list of available activities year round. Trust me, I have gone to a school in the middle of nowhere, with nothing to do close by. I would have paid a significant amount more money to be in a place with more possible things to do. When the wind chill drops below -20, you really dont want to be outside doing things. Where as in Florida, when you get too hot you can tinker with a fire hydrant and cool right off.:nana2:

Well, if I do go to FIT, my loans are going to have to have an income-sensitive repayment plan. That way I don't get too undercut with the monthly payments. I know SallieMae offers that, so I will probably look into them.

$150,000 WOOHOO :panic::crazy::banghead::insane:

If you go to UND, you can become a resident after 1 year and then your tuition is cut in half. Its about 3300 a semester compared to the almost 7k for out of state tuition.

Go the cheaper route. It seriously blows having a boatload of debt after you're out of college. I don't know if I'd do a college aviation program again. I went to UND and this stuff adds up quickly in the end, man.

I'd say SERIOUSLY consider going to a non-aviation university, major in whatever, and get the ratings on the side. It'll be WAY WAY WAY cheaper that way. I spent 49K in my ratings alone at UND back from '04-'07, which included PPL-CFII + some pointless CRJ course. Add on top of that the tuition and we're talking a lot of money.

I would HIGHLY reconsider....but it almost seems like you've made up your mind.

I was able to get scholarships for the tuition on campus. If you are stressing about the money then I agree with the others and get your ratings somewhere while going to college in a local university.

Are the college programs worth it? Hard to tell. I have had some opportunities that I wouldnt have if I went somewhere else but nothing mind blowing.

Good luck and PM me if you have any questions.

-Matt
