My first earthquake this morning

Finally I got an earthquake... 4.7 centered just about 10 miles from my house. The funny thing was just after it happened I checked the local news sites to read about it and the lead story on the local rag here is about how there was a Lull in seismic activity. The comments at the end of the article are great. I guess as many were reading the article this morning the quake happened. Not sure how long the paper will leave this article up but here is the link, make sure and check out the comments at the end of it. http://www.ocregister.com/news/fault-earthquakes-faults-1837134-san-lull

Bring on the next one!!

A 4.7 can be a fun little ride, but I wouldn't be too quick to say "Bring on the next one." Having been a Californian for the last 22 years, I've been through more than a few shakers, including the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989 - that one wasn't any fun.

Timbuff, if you want the most accurate info regarding a quake, go to the USGS site and you can read up-to-the- minute info. You can even record how much you felt the quake. Here is some info about the one you just felt:

I thought it was the upstairs neighbor be noisy, but then my bed started shaking. Fun stuff.
Earthquakes can be a fun experience so long they are not big enough for folks to get hurt.

When I was a kid I had a water bed and even if I was sleeping I could tell when we had a tremor. Just started bobbing around gently until the shaking stopped.

sad thing is i think theyre kinda fun - nothing you can do so just ride the wave....

boing boing boing

reminds me of my first quake out in hawaii last october, it was the morning of my first training flight and just before my alarm went off we got our quake. i was sleeping on an airmattress and the thing was bouncing off the walls - scared the crap out of me! i got to the airport as fast as i could and didnt feel very good until i was off the ground. good times.
:nana2:

I felt that one, too, this morning. I wasn't sure what it was at first, but then I put the pieces together. Kind of exciting.

I filled out my report and put it on the USGS site... Still can't find the place to read other's though.

The funny thing about the one this morning is I was in the kitchen and the wife was in the spare bedroom and the cat was the only one who reacted properly. He jumps up and ran right to the doorway and stood in the middle of it while my wife and I just stayed in place talking about "is that an earthquake? Yeah, this is it... Cool!!!" It didn't even dawn on us to stand in the doorway till after it was over and the cat was still standing in the doorway.

It was interesting and I think we got it pretty good as it was supposedly right under Santiago Peak and we are about the last community before you go up in the hills there.

As long as they don't get too much stronger I say bring it on from time to time... I can see how they would freak you out if they get much stronger or longer than that. Hope no one had anything damaged.

Earthquakes are fun:) I have only been woken up by one, and I was up for maybe thirty seconds and went right back to bed:nana2:

I felt it too out in Van Nuys at 10:30am. 4.7 based out of Lake Elsenor. I hate being woken up by them.
