i was checking my online schedual for my flight training and noticed a new plane. Brand spankin new 06 cessna skyhawk with a garmin g1000. good rental price too ($115.00 per hour). i wanna fly it but have no experiance with a g1000. one of the instructors has to check me out on it before im alowed to fly it solo. is there anywhere online where i can learn or study about to spend less time getting taught about it in the air?

Martha talks constantly about her G1000 course. I'm sure you get sporty's in the mail, so check that out.

I also advise in investing in (alliteration, anyone?)some spell-check software.

good mentality though. Its good to see that you're willing to take the initiative to learn on your own and not make a CFI and your checkbook suffer through many hours in the heat! Other people should be more like you and get off their ass and learn some stuff on their own! deaglle knows who im talkin about lol

lol thanks, i know how to spell, i just get a bit ahead of myself on the keyboard. im trying not to spend so much on courses. does anyone know of any g1000 online resources? (by online i mean... FREE?) its worth a try lol

Buy the Nav III PIM and you should be good. I wouldnt get that kit of CDs that the Kings put out. $200 is way overpriced for it.

You should be fine after two or three flights in it.

I get all of my stuff free because i shack up with Martha. Tonight is Johns night, so I'll check with her tomorrow.

And you better holler if you find something free on the web

silly. you'll have to break into my house pam-anderson style to get the archives.

mardi gras was just the beginning\

... ... pm me with your credit card info :)

i know thats a great price, but when your used to renting a warrior II for 69..00 115.00 plus 35.00 instruction sounds like alot. i can get about 2 hours PIC in the piper as to about 1 in the cessna at those prices. are there any real advantages to being able to fly with the g1000?

Prestige!

No, if you are just looking to build time then I would stick with the cheapest thing out there. If you are looking to learn something new and exciting the G1000 is about as flashy as you get without a lav on board.

I really do think the G1000 will be great for cross country trips! I am hoping to do my first G1000 x/c this week and with any luck sign off my first G1000 private in few weeks.

no. once the novelty of big screens and glass wears off you're still going to be sitting in a 172. flies just like the other 172's except it smells newer and probably flies a couple knots faster than the old ones (new engine, students havent banged it on with 4g landings yet, etc).

I'm torn over my opinion/s of training in one. That is one kick ass price though.

Wow, I never thought I'd ever hear someone say $115/ hour was a kick ass price for a freakin' 172.:insane:

I know it's a great price for a new well equiped airplane but geeezzz, it's still a 172!:)

Where the hell are you guys flying out of? The completely craptastic early 2000 model 172s at the airport I work at go for 125.00/hour. They are safe and well maintained however no one seems to take pride in them.

Again 115.00/hour for a brand new G1000 equiped 172 is a great price. Seeing how the one down the highway goes for 150.00/hour without instruction.

$9 will get you a copy of the PC trainer software CD from Garmin. It's a little finicky on the computer hardware it'll run on, but being able to learn all the switchology on your own time will save you $$$ with an instructor.
