Well I know I am beating a dead horse. I am partially color blind, and getting ready to pursue a career as a Pilot. I am aware of the alternate tests available besides the plate tests. I have scheduled a time with the tower to go take a practice run at a Light Gun Signal Test.

What do you think is my best rout at this point? I would like to find a doctor who can give me the Lantern test, but I cannot seem to find one. Does anyone know a private doctor who can provide such a test to me?

I am almost certain I could pass the signal test at night, but if I fail in the day time, will that halt my career? With just a daytime Signal restriction?

If anyone has any information on a California Doctor who has one of the alternate testing methods this would be of great help.

I am out of BFL in central california.

I think that the light gun signal test will actually be easier for you then the Lantern test.
 
I would use the light gun signal test as a last resort. If you fail it, is it up to the examiner whether or not you can be given a second chance. And if you fail, and are not given a second chance, the restriction (no night flying) becomes permanent and then you can pretty much kiss your airline career goodbye.

My suggestion is keep trying to find one of the alternative tests and have them administered on your own dime. If you have trouble, I highly recommend www.aviationmedicine.com . They were very helpful and were worth the $40 inquiry fee.

Well after hours of searching back posts of websites I found a doctor who can give me alternative testing. If anyone in California needs to do this in the future here is his contact information. If someone on a similar forum had not posted it, I would have never found him.

He is a really nice guy, was very helpful and called me right back. I have to say everyone in aviation I have met so far has been very willing to help out the new guy. One of the local instructors even called some of his AME friends to get more iformation for me.

He is a Professor at Berkley. To book an appointment with him call 1-510-643-0134. Tell them you want to schedule an appointment with him. Explain why, if they dont understand call his Direct number at 510-643-0683. From what I understand the eye exam cost $175.00. Thats a drop in the bucket when compared with the cost of aviation!

Wish me luck, I go in for an exam in two weeks. I will be very happy to get this nightmare behind me.

What is my next step after recieving documentation from him. What forms do I need to submit to the FAA
 
Not sure what forms you need but I'd call the CAMI in OKC on an anonymous basis before you do the testing to find out what forms he needs to sumbit, etc.
