Flying across the pond was fine. We did the major structural rework on the airplane, and the P-3 Alphas were retired early from the Navy, so they have relatively low hours. We then put in a Garmin 530/430 stack as primary Nav. We are limited to FL270 both because of RVSM and the pressurization system. No on-board wx radar, so we have to flight plan around any embedded stuff.

Nice pics, great airplane...it will be sad to see them go away in the coming years. What is the little door just aft of the nosegear on the lower stbd side of the fuselage? On every P-3 I have seen, it and the outer skin above it are covered in some sort of soot....and I just thought our Navy birds were dirty....

Nice PIX Reaper. I am jealous.

Is the AP slaved to the Garmin stack, or to the INS?

The AP is the PBN-20 and for the most part, they don't work. So no slaving at all. This one actually had one LTN-72 and one AHRS, most are two AHRS.
