This is BAD news. Qantas and British Airways Pilots have been on a 'level' playing field as both had similar pay and work rules in their contracts. However, with Emirates, the pay and work rules are not on par with Qantas and over time, the flying can be shifted over to Emirates if the Qantas Pilots don't take cuts.

The Middle Eastern Airlines want to rule the world. They are HEAVILY lobbying in DC to change the rules in America so they can have more access to the American market, as they know, our airlines can't compete against them.

Don't their pilots make significantly more than ours.. with better work rules and everything?

Nope.

Remember the Middle East Airlines only pay as much as they have to so those working there don't have to pay taxes in their country. While they make more than some companies wide body guys (USAirways comes to mind), others like Delta are paid more and have better overall benefits than Emirates.

Also the schedules at these places are brutal.

Not going to happen anytime soon. Which ever administration approved that would be burned big time giving away more American jobs.

Nope.

Yes, but the stews!!! Wow!

Had a chance to be at their FA training facility.......Almost as good as St. Petersburg Russia in July!

BUT, since the early 2000's, American commercial aviation is far from the "shiny golden ring" that it once was. Don't let your captain ask what his colleague at Air France earns for flying the same equipment in the same route system.

He'll be "Gruffaluffigus" for days.

I'd like to think so, but as I said before, we'll be sold the idea of eroding cabotage laws by their lobbying group talking about how crappy American airlines are, and how they're going to bring new aircraft, "white glove" upscale service all at mega-low-mart rates.

Total compensation packages for Captains at Emirates are over $250K and first officers $150K. When you include housing allowance, interest free car loans, uniform allowance, company furnished pick ups from your house for trips, firm flights home for vacation, and the rest of the total compensation package, Emirates is spending quite a bit of money on their pilots and flight attendants. No ones going to allow a foreign airline to do domestic ops in the USA. That airline has a very complex business structure. It's not as simple as saying they are selling tickets to and from Dubai. They have literally connected the globe thru their airline. They once had plans to be the main hub if you were going from Asia to Europe. Since then, it has literally become the hub going from anywhere to anywhere. On a side note, they have onboard showers on the A380 if you wanna shave your back mid flight.

You applying?

Do the Euro Legacies beat the 'merican ones? Friend of mine said starting pay for the 320 is the same as American RJ rates and a lot places are making applicants pay for training. My friend (in Italy) flies the 320 for next to nothing but is considered lucky he didn't have to PFT.

I was talking more about our industry equals... Like comparing Delta, on an international scale, to KLM, Air France, Lufthansa, etc.

Everyone knows that EasyJet doesn't pay squat, but they're trying to move up the food chain.

I guess its tricky anyways since the dollar and Euro have danced back and forth quite a bit over the past few years...

I'm getting conflicting information here. Is it rosier outside the US or no? (Not that I'm going anywhere...)

No, its not. I was just speaking with a FA from Emirates and there is a reason for so many young and dumb FA's and high turn over.

Its not all bad but I know a couple pilots over here from the US that wish they were still there flying.

QF isnt the same airline it was and Virgin is starting to give them more comp over here.
