Missing An FMC?

[ QUOTE ]
I was looking at This Picture of an ERJ145 and saw there was one FMC. Is there a reason on why there is one instead of two?

I might be wrong...but I don't see the FMC at all in that picture!
There normally on top the instrument panel but under the magnetic compass.
In case of this ERJ it should be above where it says ERJ-145.
In addition a FMS should have dials and a digital display telling altutudes and such. And I don't see that any where in this pic.

Like in this pic for example:

He's talking about the FMS. There are two places it goes on the ERJ, Where you see it on the orignal pic, or on the back of the center pedestal. Some have 1, some have 2.

I think you are confusing the Flight Guidance Controller, FGC, with FMS.

True...makes your scan easier...guess i've just been used to seeing Boeing cockpits.Think maybe Douglas had their PGS/autopilot in the same position as well.

The ERJ Flight Guidance Controls are in the same place as the Boeings are, just the indications of what you have selected are on the Primary Flight Displays (PFDs), ie. the six pack of instruments. Selectable items like altitude, VS, speed, and heading are all indicated in blue on the PFD.

So, in a Boeing, when you set an altitude, it is shown on the FGC panel. In the ERJ, you set the altitude in the same spot as the Boeing, but the selected altitude is displayed over the altitude tape.

Ergonomically, I can't say either is better. The ERJ has its advantages, as does the Boeing. Honestly, combining both would be best, but would take up a lot of panel space. The ERJ has a very "clean" cockpit compared to many.

Multiple FMSs are generally for overwater ops. Single FMSs suffice for landlocked flying. If the Primus system didn't need the Honeywell FMS I bet they wouldn't have an FMS at all. They would have a cheaper Garmin 530.
