MISSED PHONE CALL

So I take the family up to Maine for a well deserved vacation and wouldn't ya know it my cell phone ( nextell ) doesn't work so I missed a phone call from my military unit. They needed me to ferry our C-12 over to Germany, where another crew would pick it up to deliver it to Kuwait. After a week in the boonies I emerge back into civilization to get the "old" message. I imediatley called the unit to find out since I was indisposed that the "new" pilot got my seat, ferry one airplane to Germany, wait 5 days and ferry another one back, two trips across the pond. I'm gonna break his legs. It would have been a benchmark cross country trip no doubt. Unfortuantely I wouldn't have been able to take the trip anyways, I really needed to spend the quality time with the family prior to my deployment. We had a great time roughing it ... no running water, or electricity ... or cell phone service.

We weren't in the middle of nowheres ... we were west of the middle of nowheres. We went to a friends cottage near Dixfield which is about 1hr. west of Augusta, we then went to Rockland for a few days.

Now that's a beautiful place. We used to go up there every year, had a cabin right next to the airport.

Scarborough is real nice, and Old Orchird Beach area. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Most Mainers refuse to admit that any coastal areas south of Portland are even part of Maine. Its sort of a DMZ wasteland that keeps us safe from the southern parts of New England. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

LOL! Thats a good one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Old Orchard beach is pretty touristy. My grandparents have a summer house we share amongst my Grandfthers family in Pine Point. I love to go there, when I can. It's right on the water, two doors down is Baily's Lobster Pound and only three blocks from the beach. It's pretty peaceful when the tourists are gone. Man I am craving a good Maine Lobster with some melted butter, right now. Guess I'll have to wait and nonrev up there at the end of the month.
