MIP and Medical

Hi,
I am a 20 year old college student who received a MIP and Fake ID charge within the past month (both are misdemeanors). My attorney is getting the charges/convictions removed through a probationary period, and I will later expunge them. I am aware I will have to report this under 18w (not 18v because there was no motor vehicle action, course I had to take, or license suspension). I have talked to my AME about it and he said for my next medical to bring in all the court records. He said it will get deferred to the FAA and I will receive a letter from them telling me what to do next. My question is what will be on this letter and how will these charges affect me getting my medical. I keep reading about HIMS and did not know if that applies to an MIP or not. Just very scared for my future career and don’t know if I should just call it quits here or not. Thanks for the help.

Not sure how far along you are and investment into the career at this point. Might be a good idea to put a pause on any training until you get it worked out with the FAA one way or another. I would follow the AME's recommendations. As far as the future, I think you could overcome this in time but it might cost you a job or two and you might have to work in a lower level job longer before you can move up. Depends on how bad you want it. But I wouldn't kick out of the career until you see what happens with the FAA. They might have you jump through some hoops that take time and money.
