Gundars is a Latvian expat who was saved from the Nazis by the Russians, then came from the USSR to the USA.
 
Meh, when I want an airshow I'll go to the airport. When I'm out in the wilderness, I want it to stay that way. Make your noise somewhere where nobody gives a frack, like over North Dakota. Or southwestern Arizona if you need terrain.

SW AZ is a long way for NAS Whidbey Island jets to go for a training sortie. :D
 
He's making a crap argument (emotive, glaring logical fallacies, typical triggered hippie, yeah), but the question itself doesn't seem to have an obvious answer. There are two real and competing public goods involved. Where did the Navy train prior to the Forest Service changing policy?

That area of Washington state has been a low level training area for the USN since before the Vietnam War, maybe even earlier.
 
NIMBYs are real people, but national parks are different. IF flying over them is avoidable, it should be avoided. If not it should be minimized.

We already have those.

Yes there are training routes on the Olympic peninsula, but the National parks are 2000 AGL and above for a reason.

Anybody looking at a VFR sectional of Washington will see the level of effort gone through to not go booming through Rainier or other national parks, as well as avoid every coastal rock because it’s a bird nesting sanctuary.

This is an article written by an idiot who doesn’t know anything more about aviation as the people that move next to an airport and bitch about the noise later.
