Meteorology?

Has anybody here worked in the meteorology field or majored in it, and if so, what does this type of thing entail? I am talking aviation specific by the way.

During Field Training Exercises I was often the WX bird, ... that is I would launch in my helicopter and give the commander my opionion on whether or not we could continue with the mission. Sometimes I would just use my cell phone and call FSS ... go figure.

I worked with meteorology guys in air battle planning. Laser guided weapons don't work so well when it's foggy or dusty, so we always had the WX guys give us their forecast and then they sat in the OpCell working mission replanning as weather became a factor.

There were a bunch of weather guys at one of my assignments who either ended up in pilot training or doing the weather at the 11 o'clock news, so everyone thought that was a good field to get into.

I'm not sure what all science was entailed in it, but I know that some days it looked like pure magic and others it looked like they were just making random selections out of a hat.
