Found this METAR for a local airport this morning...had to look up the bolded part, I've never seen it before. Anyone else know off the top of their heads?

If you're already familiar with the CIS region or ICAO format, don't answer. :)

Somebody do this one for me while you're at it...

UAAA issued 8th Day 1830Z - Wind 220 at 4 m/s, visibility greater than 10 km, scattered cumulonimbus 5,000, broken clouds 10,000, temperature 22, dewpoint 8, QNH (Altimeter) 1012 mb. No Significant Change.

Can't say I know the 88CLRD65 code though...

I had to look that one up, too. It's split up as such: 88 CLRD 65

88 - All runways
CLRD - Cleared of contamination
65 - Mu meter reading of 0.65

I'm on reserve and really bored.

What about a haboob in that region? Is there a code for a haboob? Or just a remark.

I am afraid that I will forever be disappointed if a METAR does not have a haboob in it.

RMK HABOOBIES ALL QDRNTS

I've only seen that as +BLDU or +BLSA, but there might be a remark attached to it. :)

Couple months back going into some garden spot, the IRO pipes up during the descent with the ATIS: "Okay guys...winds 330 at 43 gust 52, visibility 200m, heavy blowing dust...wait a minute..."

D'oh!

Don't need specifics, but I'm quite familiar with the AOR...were you going into a military field?

That said, 0200m with blowing dust should have been encoded as +DS (heavy dust storm). Sometimes our AF observers let things slide when they get a little occupied...which is unfortunate. Yet, even going into the national airfields throughout that region, their observers are actually very well versed in all things WMO.

Anyway...not that pilots really care:

DS - when vis < 1000m
+DS when vis < 0500m

Otherwise, BLDU, with no intensity qualifier.

As far as the HABOOB remark, none of your military observers utilize it. Kinda pointless really. Strong winds? Check. Source region upstream? Check... Is the source region dry? Check - okay, forecast some dust. Day two of a strong wind event? Forecast significant reduction in visibility (<4800m, if not down to at least 1600m with a TEMPO for 0800m in DS).

surreal: You can probably guess, but I shouldn't say either way. :)

You're right, it might have been +DS at that field... The last dust storm I saw in that area was at a non-military field, however.
